Aaron Judge — Huge Talent, Phenomenal Trade Bait

...at the moment there lies an opportunity for Cashman to test his courage as never before.

That would mean jumping in with both feet to snatch Manny Machado from Baltimore and then getting on the phone with his good friend Omar Minaya, part of a triumvirate making baseball decisions for the Mets, and telling him he doesn’t want Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard, the two most coveted starting pitchers on the market.

He wants them both.

And to land them he’s willing to (gulp) send Aaron Judge across town. ...

Could I interest the Yanks in a Jose Quintana and a Tyler Chatwood for Mr. Judge instead? You can also have your choice of a position player whose surname begin with H.

I think we have to get Dave Cameron in here to figure this out (Jose Ortiz is in there somewhere!) but it is interesting. 2 years of deGrom and 3 of Syndergaard vs. 4 of Judge. Noah's had injuries but has been about 5 bWAR per full season over the last 3 years ... and deGrom has been about the same but healthier. Meanwhile, Judge was credited with 8 WAR last year, on pace for that again this year.

So in theory, 4 years of Judge is (probably max) 32 WAR while the next 2 of deG and 3 of Noah comes to about 25 WAR (if healthy). Jay Bruce ought to even that up. :-)

Judge has some scary home road splits this year.

Mr. Witz, what you just wrote is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone online is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It's not just this year. For his career, he's hitting .224/.353/.444 on the road.

Last year he has a 149 wRC+ on the road.

Read this ridiculous thing yesterday in the paper. Just not even close to what the Times usually produces.

FTFY.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty obvious.

Read this ridiculous thing yesterday in the paper. Just not even close to what the Times usually produces.

The sports section of the Times is a joke. During the hottest division race in recent memory involving one of the two local teams, it devotes at most half a page to the Yanks and Mets game stories, and the entire rest of the section features every sport but baseball. It's better on Sunday, but for the rest of the week you'd think New York's premier home team was Manchester United. Check out today's online edition, and let it be noted that the Machado trade was the only baseball story to make it into print.

Hmm. So Judge is great at home but meh on the road. Isn't Giancarlo doing just the opposite this season? Strange that two guys who are both big RH pull hitters are having such varied results.

Both are ground ball pull hitters, but both are at least even up (Judge is probably predominate to the opposite field) when it comes to their flyballs.
