Aceves suspended for three games

The Red Sox announced Saturday that they have suspended reliever Alfredo Aceves for three games for conduct detrimental to the team…

Aceves was visibly angry in the clubhouse after Friday night’s win, which was closed out by Andrew Bailey. Aceves slammed the door on his way in and out of manager Bobby Valentine’s office after the game.

I wonder if the Dodgers need a crappy reliever.

"Take him to Detroit".

Aceves always kind of seemed like a ticking time bomb to me. All the ambient craziness was probably all it took to set him off.

I love the Red Sox, but damn I ####### hate this team. Hey, ########, you want to be the closer forever? Try getting your ERA under 4 first, jackass. ####### #########.

A more plausible explanation for the suspension is that Aceves was caught trying to stow away on the chartered jet headed to LA.

If only he could slam the door on the other team, amirite?

The circus music with this thread is a nice touch. Bravo!

I thought it was especially amusing that the ad appearing under the comment box for this thread was focused on running background checks and arrest records.

If the Sox want to revel in their current brand of masochism they can put Aceves back in the rotation for the rest of the year. That ought to intensify the sour taste that's already in everyones' mouths...

I'm not sure the recent actions of the Sox is going to help them land any free agents. Yes they have the money, but they might have to overpay to get someone to want to go into that noxious place.

I feel like their recent actions are meant to fix the clubhouse, though. It doesn't mean it will work, but that's gotta be part of the intent.

Padilla and Aceves hanging out together in the bullpen must bring such levity to the rest of the team!

Seriously, Aceves has been horrible. Making him the closer steers Aceves away from his core strength - giving the team strong multi-inning relief appearances two to three times a week. In 2013, if he is still on the team, he should be put back in that role. Bailey should be the closer, and one hopes that Bard is back in a place to be a highly-effective one-inning back of the bullpen guy.

How is that easier than being a closer? From his perspective, the big money goes to starters, and the second big money goes to closers. The role you describe is a poorly paid one, even if you're Ramiro Mendoza.

I just love the twist that Bailey is closing out meaningless games in August; a fate he thought he was getting away from when he got dealt. And to add another wrinkle to it all, the A's are playing the type of meaningful games Bailey figured he'd be closing out.

I think the A's could be talked into trading Raul Alcantara to the Red Sox for Andrew Bailey.
