On SIRIUS XM Radio’s MLB Home Plate channel, ex-Met GM Jim Duquette reported the Mets canceled their fall instructional league for minor leaguers in an apparent cost-saving maneuver.
“There’s a lot of talk and I believe this is information that has not gotten out,” said Duquette, the show’s host. “... The Mets have made a decision, and some organizations do this, but they’ve decided not to have what’s called their instructional league, which is, for their minor leagues, it’s an opportunity to develop [and] continue to develop your young players. And there’s some debate within circles over the past couple years the true value of instructional league but most organizations have a version of it. They’re not going to do it. Now the rumors within the scouting circles are that they can’t afford - which it roughly costs about 300 grand to staff and to invite and fly down all the players, to having meals throughout for about, it’s like a 4 to 5 week program.

I just find it interesting Rubin is still going hard after the Mets. This doesn't seem like that big a deal, especially as other teams are closing up shop, too. I'll take Calvin Coolidge Emeigh's take as gospel on this.
They're an easy target in a big market. If the Royals or the Rays or some other team on an obviously tight budget did this, it wouldn't be anything of note. For the Mets to do something like this, especially after a disastrous season and with rumours about money problems among the owners, it's a topic of some interest.
PS - Gaelan was looking for you.

Don't know. I was just hoping he'd chime in. He has infinitely more knowledge about the inner workings of a team's developmental side than I have.
