After two-year absence, [Oliver] Perez back in bigs

Three months from Thursday, Perez will be as old as Sandy Koufax was when he pitched his final game, so Ollie better get started.

Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik announced prior to Saturday’s game with the Giants that the team had recalled veteran left-hander Oliver Perez from Triple-A Tacoma. In a corresponding move, they optioned right-hander Steve Delabar to Tacoma.

Perez, 30, signed with the Mariners prior to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee and was not on the 40-man roster. To make room for the reliever, Seattle designated Minor League outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang for assignment.

In 22 games with Tacoma this season, Perez is 2-2 with a 4.65 ERA and one save out of the bullpen. He has 42 strikeouts and 19 walks in 31 innings pitched.

Did Perez wear uniform #6 or got another number?

EDIT: mlb.com had reported "Perez (#36) will be in uniform for tonight’s game vs. the Giants (7:10 pm) at Safeco Field."

He's only 30? Wow, it seems like he's been around forever. Being a lefty, he's got another 10 years of doing this dance.

Well at least he's worked out his control issues. :-)
