I don't disagree, but no commentator should ever say the phrase "Puig and his tongue..."

they are just so cute.

We learned in second grade that it's "Puig's tongue and Puig."

Baseball should be fun.

Maybe I'm just old (really middle aged) but I'd don't find this sort of thing fun. Spontaneous exuberance is fun. But most of this kind of thing seems like it's pre-meditated, and often more than a little mean spirited. Wagging your finger like that might well get you a smack in the face if you pick the wrong target. I wouldn't be shocked if Puig rehearses his bat flips and other antics.

No, you're old. Even as a Cubs fan losing here, that exchange was fun. It also redeems Puig a little for me, because if he can't take that sort of thing he shouldn't be giving it as much either.

I love Javy, I just wish Javy was hitting a little bit right now.

I love Javy,

Which makes me not view your opinion as unbiased.
   7. Batman Posted: October 18, 2017 at 10:35 AM (#5556860)
I don't like Javy, and I thought it was fun. It was less mean spirited than the way the Cubs all went home after the first inning last night, leaving the Dodgers nobody to play baseball against.

In the ninth inning of the Dodgers' 6-1 win in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series presented by Camping World on Tuesday

If college football is a guidepost, we're just a few years from the Camping World Series a few short years from now.

Given that I don't think he's done it before, it's possible he figured Puig was the perfect foil to use it, given Puig's quite the showman himself.

I too like the spontaneous and don't care for the pre-planned. This one looked more the former than the latter.

And I'm not a Cubs fan.

Camping World Series

You mean the Camping World Series presented by Lincoln and brought to you by Applebee's.

substitute the announcer name and that's pretty much what Yankees radio broadcasts sound like

Cubs too. There are like half a dozen sponsor plugs before the game even starts - the starting lineups, the gametime temperature, and the leadoff man are all sponsored.

Agreed. It is pretty clear that Baez and Puig got together and decided that Puig would get a garbage-time single, attempt to stretch it, and get thrown out while attempting a swim move, so that Baez could finger-wag him. So obviously pre-meditated.
   15. Batman Posted: October 18, 2017 at 11:37 AM (#5556948)
Justin Turner should have wagged his finger at all the Cubs who were standing on third after Almora tried to Dybzinski the ninth inning.

I didn't say this incident, I said "most of this kind of thing". It's right there where you quoted it.

I specifically mentioned Puig's bat flips, which I'm 95% sure are planned, since he sometimes does it even on very doubtful fly balls.
   17. Barry`s_Lazy_Boy Posted: October 18, 2017 at 11:42 AM (#5556958)
I doubt Puig plans anything, and does whatever comes naturally to him. Like a curtain call to a silent stadium.
   18. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 11:45 AM (#5556961)
I wonder if Davish planned his bat flip on the bases loaded walk.
   19. Batman Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:03 PM (#5556978)
I, for one, enjoyed Darvish's celebratory "OK, that's strike one- oh, it's a ball? I guess I'll go to first" dance.

Now that was a situation that calls for a spontaneous celebration. Pitchers who contribute offensively can dance naked around the field ( a la "Slapshot").

To tie this into the OTP thread - the Reds' radio broadcast used to have a great sponsorship - "It's the bottom of the 5th, brought to you by Old Grand-dad."

The world is grateful you waited until well after Bartolo Colon's first and likely only major league homer to dispense this advice.

Speaking of Bartolo, is he coming back next year?

Well, an actual playoff-bound team picked him up and stuck him in their rotation after he put up a 8.14 ERA in 13 starts for Atlanta this year, so who am I to say no.

I haven't heard him announce his retirement, if that's what you're asking.

Please, Camping World will probably be out of business in a few years. It's another example of a no-name company deciding the best way to hit the big time is to spend a ton of money on sponsoring a baseball playoff series or a stadium or a Super Bowl ad. Wasn't Bleacher Report all over one of the early series? Granted, baseball has the right demographic for RV sales and accessories.

The Rockies have one now that goes something like "You've just heard the bottom of the 5th, and if you've reached the bottom of your fifth, go to Dave's Liquor..."

That video has 12,366 views. How many of them do you think don't come from this website?

Looks like a good finger wag to me. Not a great one. Virtually every 2B in the league could have made it. And would have, had the runner managed to slide in the clumsy manner that he did and then happened to miss the base again in the gift of the year.

His momentum was carrying him away from 2B, which I guess is why people were fooled into thinking this was a special act. I see nothing remarkable about it.

I'm pretty sure Bleacher Report is crushing it, in terms of profitability, exposure, etc. I won't bet on it long term necessarily, because it ####### sucks, but that doesn't necessarily preclude any media venture these days (or in the old days?) from being a good monetary bet going forward, so what do I know?

But yeah, Camping World will get swallowed up by somebody (Amazon?) soon and cease to be a thing in the way

Just want to note that the Cubs are playing much better since the finger wag...

When they pull off the miracle, just remember that this is where it started.
