ajc: Braves honor late AJC columnist Furman Bisher

Lord, Lord, they laid the man who once interviewed Shoeless Joe Jackson in the ground.

uw

The Braves paid tribute to late Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Furman Bisher, who died on March 18, with a moment of silence before the Braves home opener Friday night at Turner Field.

The Braves also installed a plaque in the press box at Turner Field which reads: “legendary sports columnist who spent 59 years with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A true gentleman and fan of the Atlanta Braves who wrote from his heart and spoke with a kind, southern voice.” It was punctuated by Bisher’s signature column sign-off: “Selah.”

Unfortunately, the plaque was transported in a Toyota.

To honor Furman. the text of the plaque should be incoherent yet vaguely racist.

That's what the "kind, southern voice" was.
