ajc: Dale Murphy no fan of Bonds (RR)

Break out that bottle of aged Neogonadil Bruco…time for another Dale Murphy interview.

Q. Doesn’t the argument that Bonds never failed a drug test fall flat, since Major League Baseball didn’t begin testing until recently?

A. Oh yeah. We didn’t test. You’re exactly right. It’s been kind of a flawed way we’ve approached this whole thing from the players’ side and from the commissioner’s side. We’ve made some mistakes. I just think in one big step, we could go a long way. Now, are guys going to get by steroids tests? Are they still going to take that chance? Maybe, but boy I tell you one thing, I think it sends a great message to up-and-coming athletes that you get involved in this stuff, your career could be over.”

I think it sends a great message to up-and-coming athletes that you should shut the #### up.

It bears repeating: Dale Murphy, who played on the 1990-92 Phillies and the 1993 Rockies, is shocked-- shocked!-- at what has since happened to the purity of the clean game he once loved.

Hey, Eyeball - we're having a great discussion on the Pinella thread about stereotyping, bias, prejudice, and idiotic comments. Looks like you're ahead of the game! Come on over!

i'm getting more then a little tired of dale murphy running his mouth

he reminds me of steve garvey

gonfalon,
thre wasn't no steroids on the 90-92 phils or the 93 rox. sorry. barry lamar bonds started it ALL in 1998 because that is when the SF reporters say so. even though after all these years the feds they can't seem to find one little bit of proof he did

so barry lamar bonds he gotta pay the price.

unlike, say, alex sanchez

If Murphy was as well regarded by teammates as folks say, I can see his juicing peers as keeping it away from him out of respect for his scruples.

I was pretty sure Lenny Dykstra was on something in 1993. His arms were freakishly huge and well-ripped. As a guy who has dabbled in the weightlifing culture, I can say from experience that to get guns like Dykstra had without the juice requires some pretty impressive genetics and natural muscle.

Dykstra may have been one of those fortunate few with those genetics but I wouldn't have guessed it by watching him on 1986 Mets.

Best Regards

John

I hope Bonds doesn't have the heart of a criminal, because if he can get away with taking steroids without getting caught...

It must fry his ass that no one knows who Alex Sanchez is, relative to his own fame. I bet he'd like to strangle Sanchez for not being a better ballplayer than he ended up being.
