Yahoo says Freddy Garcia and Gavin Floyd.

Floyd on short rest, then. Detroit finally has something to play for!

I didn't even know Freddy Garcia was on the Tigers. I knew he signed with them awhile ago, but I didn't know he was pitching in the majors. Hopefully the Sox win tomorrow so we get a game 163.

Freddy Garcia and Gavin Floyd...on this happiest of all days for Phillies fans, to be confronted with those two names I had tried to forget. Ugh.

Good lord will this season never end?

Hypothetical question, I dont remember the answer.

Say the Red Sox were tied with the Twins and White Sox as of the end of the games tomorrow. The Twins and White Sox would play Tuesday to decide the Central winner. Then the loser would play Boston to determine the Wild Card? Or is the loser of the game to decide the Central out of luck because they have an extra loss?

Buehrle's been worth his money and then some in September: 4-1, 2.29 ERA. Two seven-inning quality starts on short rest, the second coming after a 121-pitch outing.

The loser of the Central is out of luck.

The loser of the Central is out of luck.

That's how it used to be, but they changed the rule so that the loser of the Central would get to play Boston.

OK, that's what I thought but couldn't remember. Didn't seem fair that a team could back in because the other guys had to play an extra game.

Has any team ever had to defeat three different teams on three consecutive days to earn a playoff spot/division championship? The White Sox have a chance to do something historically remarkable.

Edit: Above not intended as a jinx.

Been done (almost), and by a Chicago team to boot.

The 1908 Chicago Cubs were half a game back when they played the Reds on October 3rd. They won that game and then played the Pirates who were half a game ahead of the Cubs, they won that game. They then had to play the Giants who they were tied with and won that game to finish out the season and head to the World Series.

The only qualifier that it doesn't get is the consecutive days part. For them it was the 3rd, 4th, and 8th.

I know two Tigers who will be motivated tomorrow, Ordonez and Garcia. Ozzie managed to insult both.

He insulted Garcia? As far as I know, the two are pretty close. I'd think anything Guillen said about Garcia probably wasn't a whole lot more than playful ribbing.

I guess Danks would be the Tuesday starter and he's on 3 days rest. But I see he's coming off an 80 pitch outing and hasn't thrown over 100 pitches in a game since August. Blackburn seems to be on fumes. I guess that would be really gut check time for both. Of course the Sox have to take it one game at a time.

Ozzie and garcia are very close. They were drinking buddies during Freddy's time in Chicago.

That's not to say he won't be motivated...he's working for a career for crissakes,

Danks is running on less than fumes at this point, and that's when he's working on normal rest. I'm not sure what the Sox would do, and as good a job as Guillen has done protecting Danks down the stretch, they don't really have any other plausible option other than throwing Danks on short-rest. I would think that they'd ask him to give them three or four innings, try and get an inning or two from Buehrle and/or Vazquez and then hand it to the 'pen.

...Of course, this could all be erased if the Sox play tomorrow the way they played this past week. I am glad to see Minnesota go with Blackburn, though -- he was pretty terrible in his start last week, despite escaping with just two runs allowed over five. He was hanging a ton of breaking pitches. Any competent offense would've had him out by the fourth. As it was the Sox managed ten baserunners against him but Blackburn got the double-plays when he needed 'em.

Sox team hitting vs. Twins this year: .289/.341/.486/.827. 30 HR (avg. 1.67/g) 100 R (avg. 5.56/g) Those stats are far superior to stats against their other three AL Central bretheren.

Also, that includes games both in The Cell AND The Hankydome this year. The numbers just at The Cell are probably a lot better.

Oh, I almost forgot. A 7-2 record in games played in Chicago this season.

I think the Twins are ####ed if there is a game Tuesday, no matter who starts.

Funny, Sox fans think we're pretty much ###### no matter who starts too!
