It’s not looking good for his return.

On Cheers, when Diane left to go write a book or study somewhere for six months, on her way out the door Sam said "Have a good life." She chastised him saying that's how you talk to someone you'll never see again, and reassured him that she'd be back in just six months. With that, she went out the door, and after it closed behind her Sam repeated, "Have a good life." He knew that it wasn't going to be six months, that she was going to get swept away somehow. He had no animosity toward her, just a dose of reality; he knew that pretending she'd be back in six months was folly. And he was right.

Dustin Pedroia, have a good life.

I don't think we're at that point with Pedroia. I'll be shocked if he plays again in 2018 but I will be similarly shocked if he doesn't play next year.

I think he knew she hadn't renewed her contract. :-)

Typical Red Sox. One Norm, 25 beers.

I've never forgotten that scene from Cheers. That's one of my favourite "serious" scenes from any sitcom.

Me neither. It holds up.

I'm a pretty optimistic guy. However I'm going to have to side with VI on this one. I just don't think he's going to make it back. I've no doubt he'll try and some time early next year he'll be working his way back in Portland or something and suffer another set back and that will be that.

I hope I'm wrong as MLB is a better place with Dustin Pedroia a part of it.

This is better.

These YouTube links led me to discover that Ron Howard made $5,000 more than Sandy Koufax signed for after the famous joint holdout with Don Drysdale. Howard was 11.

I was too young to really be a first-run fan of Cheers, but caught up when it was in syndication. I was never a huge fan of Diane's character, yet that episode; that scene has always impacted me enough that it's become my personal series finale for the show. I understand it had many more seasons, and I enjoy them in their own right, but the handful of times I've gone back and re-watched the series, I've felt content to leave it at that scene of the older Sam and Diane slow-dancing.
