Alex Meyer blanks Royals while Angels bats explode – Orange County Register

“He just kind of simplified things,” Meyer recalled. “Trust (the fastball). Just throw it over the middle and let them hit it. I’m not saying that’s the whole key to everything, but that definitely played into it.”

Meyer's been a prospect for years, but he finally seems to have found something. In his few starts in Anaheim last year, he always looked like he was groping for the strike zone, falling behind in counts and getting himself in trouble. He's still got strike zone issues this year, so it's not like all his problems are over, but his willingness to throw his curve ball in fastball counts has gotten him out of a ton of jams. Four of his last six starts have been QSs, he doesn't give up homers, and he misses bats. If he can shave off just a few more walks, he could be a very solid rotation guy.
