An angry detour for Sox owner John Henry

Here’s a very interesting interview of Red Sox owner John Henry. The interview is very contentious and provides insight into the perspective of the Sox owner. Whether you agree or disagree with him, Henry certainly should be applauded for addressing *all* the issues floating around.

Listen to the audio yourself.

Hat tip to villageidiom for finding the link.

Perhaps. Alternatively, I think less contact and interaction with the media devoted to discussing the fallout from the playoff loss and the Hohler artucle might be a good Point A for the Red Sox, from John Henry on down, right now.

The season is over; Francona and Epstein are gone. Time to move on.

Agree with Robin. It's clear to me what Henry was trying to do, but I don't think he's done it. He should know by now that all most people would take from these interviews is the gossipy half truths.

Nothing about the release of Francona's personal medical data, or about off-day pitchers drinking beer during the game. In the NL, starting pitchers on off-days are sometimes used as pinch runners, so that a position player doesn't get wasted. I would think this practice would still apply in the AL, perhaps to a lesser extent.

I listened to much of that interview when they replayed it at 5pm. Henry sounded annoyed at times, and at times, the interview was more light hearted.

They Red Sox don't use pitchers to pinch run often. The last time I remember them doing that was when they used Buchholz, and I think it ended badly. Not with an injury, but he ran into an embarrassing out. IINM.

Haven't you been paying attention? In the AL the pitchers get wasted instead.

I would have loved for Theo to have been our general manager for the next 20 years on a series of 1 year deals.

Yes, Henry was so in love with Theo that he didn't extend him with only one year left on his deal, and then offered him up to the Cubs to interview.

When they don't talk about it, all they get is "Well, ownership had the opportunity to deny it, and they didn't, so it must be true." We shall call this approach the "full Felger". I prefer the other way, even if it gives rise to the morons.

You are what Darren is talking about in #2.

Maybe the cubs should offer a bowling ball for Theo
