Reds at Brewers tonight. Going down to 25 degrees in Milwaukee this evening. Does the roof still work at Miller Park?

LET'S GO METS!

You get plus 30 degrees from the outside temperature, according to Brewers. My experience (as said in some prior game thread) tells me it is not quite +30 degrees if you're sitting in the outfield bleacher areas, but quite comfortable in the main seating bowl with a light jacket or sweatshirt.

I see Cards/Cubs has been postponed.

LET'S GO METS!

I am ready for some deGromination

Thankfully, the Jays play today's game in SkyDome, so there is no worry about the weather ruining the game...

...what's that?

OH, COME ON!

"I was inside the Rogers Centre this morning and heard a HUGE crash and then snow/ice coming through the roof onto the field. The fire alarm then went off. Heard another crash a few minutes later."

As of right now, nobody knows the extent of the damage, and it’s too dangerous to send someone up to check it out, since more ice could fall at any time. The Blue Jays are working with the CN Tower and Toronto Police to get to the bottom of it.

Picture of the hole in the roof

And even if they get that hole patched up, there is still the danger of ice sliding off the roof and injuring people lining up to get into the game.

Phillies have won 8 of 9 playing against the Marlins, Reds, and Rays, all of whom are horrible. Time for a fair fight tonight against the Cobb County Boys.
   7. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 04:09 PM (#5654759)
Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer: Aaron Boone says Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is dealing with a new injury issue. The team thinks the oblique injury "is past," but in addition to the hip problem, Ellsbury has developed a plantar fascia problem, per Boone. "He's just got to get right," the manager added.

The window on when Ellsbury possibly could have been useful may have closed, with Aaron Hicks now healthy and Clint Frazier not far off, but the guy can't seem to catch a break (other than his current contract).

With all this snow, rain and inclement weather so far, this season can be titled 'a druid yourself'-one, no ?

Let's hope it gets better soon and all the teams not winning much, start winning. Or not. Whatever.

Go Yankees ! (and Mets !)
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:01 PM (#5654858)
Gardner single, Judge BB, Stanton BB, Sanchez infield single. 1-0, NYY; only 1 out.

EDIT: 2-out BB to Tyler Austin makes it 2-0.
   10. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:04 PM (#5654860)
Guess we need an Austin salami !

Ok, BB.
   11. Snowboy Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:10 PM (#5654861)
Gardner single, Judge BB, Stanton BB, Sanchez infield single. 1-0, NYY; only 1 out.

I don't see an out there.
Was it Ellsbury?
It was Ellsbury, wasn't it? Was he the lead-off hitter, but when he reported to the plate on a gurney, the ump just declared "automatic out!"
   12. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:13 PM (#5654863)
It was Ellsbury, wasn't it?

It was George Brett.
   13. JJ1986 Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:14 PM (#5654864)
Bryce Harper just got sawed-off for a home run.
   14. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:14 PM (#5654865)
Did the ball leave the park or the bat?
   15. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:14 PM (#5654866)
Holy cow, Harper with a broken bat homer.
   16. Jess Franco Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:17 PM (#5654867)
Andujar didn't see a strike in that AB. Definitely not ready for thr bigs.
   17. zack Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:17 PM (#5654868)
That's not how this works, Harper! That's not how any of this works!
   18. Jess Franco Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:18 PM (#5654869)
against the Marlins, Reds, and Rays, all of whom are horrible. Time for a fair fight tonight against the Cobb County Boys.

A rematch of opening day. Maybe Kapler won't #### this one up.
   19. JJ1986 Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:19 PM (#5654870)
I'm going to be disappointed if the Mets can't knock Jeremy Hellickson around.
   20. JJ1986 Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:23 PM (#5654873)
Matt Adams, left fielder.
   21. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:25 PM (#5654874)
I hate this the most about replay. A team thinks they see something so they hold the game up for 40 seconds looking at video and, in the end, nah, it's all good.

Make them challenge immediately, at least, if it's going to be a challenge system.
   22. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:26 PM (#5654875)
After a lead-off BB, Severino strikes out the side in 2nd. Caleb Smith already at 42 pitches after the 1st for Marlins.
   23. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:31 PM (#5654876)
Judge HRs immediately after Michael Kay notes that he has yet to go on a tear, having "only" 3 homers. 3-0.

That was Judge's 60th career HR, and he broke the record for doing so in fewest games. Of course, he was robbed of a clear homer on a terrible umpire & replay failure last season.
   24. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:38 PM (#5654879)
That was deGromsome.
   25. Jess Franco Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:43 PM (#5654881)
Odubel goes yard. 1-0 Phillies.
   26. Jess Franco Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:45 PM (#5654883)
Joe West squeezing Teheran.
   27. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:46 PM (#5654884)
Very nice strikezone by the blue at Yankee Stadium. Best one I've seen this year.

Lance Barrett.
   28. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 07:59 PM (#5654888)
That's not the best risk, sending Conforto with only one out.
   29. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:14 PM (#5654898)
Stanton BB followed by Sir Didi's HR; 7-0.
   30. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:17 PM (#5654901)
I don't want to be mean, but Lobaton looks fairly worthless with a bat.
   31. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:24 PM (#5654905)
Beggars can't be choosers.
   32. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:32 PM (#5654906)
Rockies up 5-1 on the Pirates thanks to a three-run homer from Trevor Story. There are approximately 16 fans in the seats at PNC.
   33. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:39 PM (#5654909)
Can the Yanks save a few of these runs for a game when they'll really need it?
   34. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:40 PM (#5654910)
Austin 2B, Andujar RBI 2B, Torreyes single, Gardner BB & Judge RBI single. 9-0 in 5th.

EDIT: Aaron Judge now at .357/.486/.625 for the season. #No Fluke.

EDIT II: 2-run single for Gary Sanchez, his 3rd hit of the night, to go with a BB. His slump may be over. 11-0.
   35. Dale Sams Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:46 PM (#5654913)
If i recall....score every inning games are pretty rare. 19 times? Yanks have a good chance tonight
   36. snapper (history's 42nd greatest monster) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:54 PM (#5654917)
I like when the Yankees play the Marlins rather than an actual MLB team.
   37. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 08:55 PM (#5654919)
I do not have a good feeling about this game.
   38. Dale Sams Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:04 PM (#5654922)
And the ump does what he can to stop history
   39. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:08 PM (#5654928)
Boy, when everything works, everything really works.
   40. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:10 PM (#5654930)
I get that the three true outcome approach to baseball has its merits, but things like stolen bases, sacrifices, safety squeezes are interesting as well, and nice to watch when done right.
   41. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:10 PM (#5654931)
Wow, that was a great play by Trea Turner.
   42. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:12 PM (#5654932)
Tsk. Glad we're ahead.
   43. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:24 PM (#5654939)
If I was only reading Lassus' comments (other than the one where he admits the Mets lead), I'd think things were dark for the Mets.
   44. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:24 PM (#5654940)
Charlie Blackmon with his 7th homer, all of them on the road.
   45. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:25 PM (#5654942)
AJ Cole has not provided the Nats with any relief. Triple and Homer to the first two hitters he has faced.
   46. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:25 PM (#5654943)
Heh.

I was just going to say that Asdrubal Cabrera HAS to be on something, right?
   47. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:31 PM (#5654948)
If I was only reading Lassus' comments (other than the one where he admits the Mets lead), I'd think things were dark for the Mets.

And he's the optimistic one.
   48. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:33 PM (#5654949)
deGrom has been amazing. Even the run he gave up he only gave up because Bryce Harper can get sawed off and STILL hit it over the fence.
   49. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:33 PM (#5654950)
BREAKING NEWS: Gleyber Torres pinch hit for in 5th inning at AAA. Headed for the Bronx? Or a career threatening hangnail? Probably not replacing Sir Didi, who just hit his 2nd HR of the game, 5th of the season. 12-0.

EDIT: Per YES, Jon Heyman reporting Torres taken out of game as a precaution in cold weather, and not being called up.
   50. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:35 PM (#5654953)

And he's the optimistic one.

DOOOOOOOOMED.

Trea Turner is pesky.

BREAKING NEWS: Gleyber Torres pinch hit for in 5th inning at AAA. Headed for the Bronx?

Unfortunately it looks more like a non-career threatening hangnail. He's not being called up.
   53. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:42 PM (#5654962)
Just kinda ran outta gas.

OK, bullpen, let's go.
   54. PreservedFish Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5654963)
Man DeGrom looked great tonight.
   55. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:45 PM (#5654964)
This is upsetting.
   56. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5654965)
Seth Lugo just pouring gasoline all over the fire.
   57. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:48 PM (#5654969)
I'm almost contemplating the Bonds strategy here.
   58. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:49 PM (#5654970)
At least it wasn't a HR.
   59. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:50 PM (#5654971)
DOOOOOOOOOOMED.
   60. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:50 PM (#5654972)
You know what, this sequence did not require this many relievers.
   61. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:52 PM (#5654975)
OK, Ramos, let's be not terrible.
   62. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:54 PM (#5654976)
Barely. Got lucky.
   63. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:56 PM (#5654977)
Jesus ####### christ.
   64. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5654979)
Ramos, don't make me call Banta's sniper.
   65. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5654980)
Lassus, you can panic now.
   66. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5654981)
THROW A ####### STRIKE, RAMOS.
   67. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5654983)
Ramos sucks.
   68. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5654984)
Wow, this is pathetic.
   69. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5654985)
Ramos, don't make me call Banta's sniper.

Hilarious.
   70. Where have you gone Brady Anderson? Posted: April 16, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5654986)
Hey, the Marlins scored a run! They might make a game if it yet.
   71. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5654987)
#############
   72. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:03 PM (#5654988)
Egads.
   73. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5654989)
God, I hate that my #37 wasn't proven wrong.
   74. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5654990)
After careful consideration, I've come to the conclusion that your bullpen sucks.
   75. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5654991)
This is awful.
   76. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:05 PM (#5654992)
Yeah, Lassus, sorry for doubting your tone. You nailed it.
   77. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:05 PM (#5654993)
Nothing like using 5 pitchers to blow a 5 run lead.
   78. snapper (history's 42nd greatest monster) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5654994)
Man, this is an epic bullpen meltdown. Almost Braves-ian.
   79. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5654995)
I think Callaway got too cute with that many pitching changes.

   80. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5654996)
I'd point out my first DOOOOOMED was back when the Nats had only scored one run.
   81. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5654997)
Could see that walk coming a mile away.
   82. snapper (history's 42nd greatest monster) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5654998)
Nothing like using 5 pitchers to blow a 5 run lead.

Seems like anyone of them could have done it alone, and saved us 20 minutes.
   83. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:07 PM (#5654999)
To be fair, no one who came in after DeGrom deserved to stay more than one batter. None of them had anything at all.
   84. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5655000)
So they've walked in two runs and let another score by HBP. This is incredible.
   85. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5655001)
Awful. OK guys, you have two innings, let's get something done.
   86. Where have you gone Brady Anderson? Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5655002)
The Nationals scored six runs with no extra base hits.
   87. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5655003)
I thought the HBP loaded the bases, not scored a run?
   88. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:12 PM (#5655004)
It might have, I'm following via gamecast.
   89. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:13 PM (#5655005)
Kintzler has been pretty bad against the Mets so far this year.
   90. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5655006)
Just to make everyone feel worse, Cespedes' fly ball out, location and cheer sound, was reminiscent of Piazza's final out of the 2000 World Series.

This game now seems over.
   91. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:17 PM (#5655010)
I'm naming Ramos this game's LVP so far.
   92. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5655013)
I'm not going to watch the last inning. Maybe that will fix it.
   93. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:23 PM (#5655014)
Ok, time for me to go to bed. Goddamnit.
   94. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:25 PM (#5655015)
You guys did not successfully reverse the jinx.
   95. Lassus Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:30 PM (#5655017)
I blame bunyon for this entire mess.
   96. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:34 PM (#5655019)
Heh.
   97. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:37 PM (#5655020)
How did Cabrera double, then get out on a fielders choice, without Conforto getting on base?
   98. bunyon Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:43 PM (#5655023)
It shouldn;t have been a FC. The ball got away from the catcher and he was thrown out at third. He really shouldn't have gone. The ball was in front, toward third and not that far from the catcher. It was terrible baserunning.
   99. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2018 at 10:47 PM (#5655024)

Down two runs and he tried to go? That's really not smart.

That's a tough loss. I hate this four or give relievers in an inning. Even after Turner got on base, the Mets should have just turned the ball over to someone and one guy get through the inning.

Would be nice for the Mets to win one of the next two.
   100. Dr. Vaux Posted: April 16, 2018 at 11:37 PM (#5655041)
The game's completely different if deGrom is out after seven like he should have been. It's probably completely different even if he's only allowed one baserunner.Didn't they spend a whole bunch of money on the bullpen?
