His biggest assets are defense and OBP, and neither skill is rewarded in arbitration. What's the risk in taking him year to year?
They get protection against an insane arb award, and will probably have Profar ready to take over at short when the deal's up.
Not how I would've done it, but not crazy, either.
Or, you know, Andrus breaks through. His BA and doubles spiked this season, and he's still very young. It's completely within the realm of possibility that Andrus submits a 300/365/410 season in the next two seasons, and then this looks like a bargain.
