Angels’ Albert Pujols not bothered by recent skid

Skids…into the valley.

Albert Pujols is slumping along with his teammates now, his one-for-23 skid tacked onto the Angels’ eight losses in 11 games.

But Pujols also carries the perspective of a 2011 St. Louis Cardinal, when his team rallied from a 10 1/2-game deficit on Aug. 24 in the National League wild-card race and won the World Series.

“There’s still a lot of baseball left,” Pujols said following Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Seattle and a 20-minute closed-door meeting called by Angels Manager Mike Scioscia.

...“We just need to continue to push and realize we are a good ballclub,” Pujols said. “Everyone has to go through this to be a championship ballclub because when a tough situation comes, how do you handle it?

“We have a bunch of veteran guys who know what baseball is. Staying positive, that’s the main thing — not hanging your head. The young guys feel it, and that’s a beautiful thing.”

There may e a lot of baseball left, but there isn't THAT much baseball left.

Bullpen injuries, mediocrity in the rotation, Trumbo turning back into a pumpkin and Vernon Wells getting healthy have all put a damper on the good vibes this team had generated prior to the All-Star Break. But the holes are not going away, and it's probably too late for 2012.

Angels stadium has always been a bit of a pitchers park, but its heading towards Dodgers stadium or even Petco territory this year.

C'mon Albert, you were starting to make me look good!

it's probably too late for 2012.

Oh c'mon now, the Angels are all of 2 games out of a wild card and are tied for the best run differential among those contenders. They could be leading the wild card by the end of the week.

And the teams they have to beat are Oakland, Baltimore, and one of Detroit/Chicago/Tampa. They're not exactly stuck behind a group of powerhouses.

Perhaps it's a product of being a Jays fan, but I'd be super jazzed to be in the Angels' position right now.

Oakland just beat the Angels 2 of 3 and Tampa has arms that shut the Halos down. It's probably not too late for the 2nd wild card, but a team that adds Pujols, Trout, CJ Wilson and a healthy Kendrys Morales shouldn't be pinning their hopes on this new lotto ticket called WC2.

This team should have battled Texas for the division without TX injuries, and with their injuries, I'd have thought LAAoA could have been closer than 8 games.

Maybe I'm jaded, but this is a disappointing season, save Trout.

Well, yeah, but since it isn't preseason it's kind of pointless to say they shouldn't be pinning their hopes on the WC.
