Angry Dodgers fans run over Clayton Kershaw jersey after NLDS loss

Los Angeles Dodgers fans did not handle their shocking National League Division Series loss well. Following the game, some fans thought it would be appropriate to run over a Clayton Kershaw jersey in the parking lot.

The moment was captured on video by LZ Granderson of the Los Angeles Times, who decided to run over the jersey.

Kershaw was one of many Dodgers scapegoats from Wednesday’s game. The 31-year-old Kershaw came on in relief with the Dodgers up 3-1 late in the game and gave up back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning that tied the game. The Dodgers went on to lose 7-3 in the 10th inning.

Kershaw wasn’t the only person responsible for the loss. Reliever Joe Kelly gave up a grand slam to Howie Kendrick in the 10th that gave the Washington Nationals the win. Manager Dave Roberts was responsible for leaving both Kershaw and Kelly in the game.

This sort of thing feels like something that will backfire on the fandom sooner or later, doesn’t it?

Cubs will probably take him off their hands.

I assume you mean joe kelly who would be a perfect fit for the cubs pen

56,000 in the ballpark, so five in the parking lot define Dodger fans. Sure.

I don't know about the Cub pen, Duke, but he could probably compete for a spot in the Cardinal rotation....

Was Kershaw wearing it at the time?

There are 29 other starting rotations that would happily (and very productively) add Clayton Kershaw.

What, were there no Giants fans around to maim?

Must be a slow news day in L.A.

I don't know how you hang this loss on Kershaw?? If anything, Dave Roberts sleeping in the dugout while Joe Kelly melts down on the mound should be prime suspect A#1. I mean, as soon as Kelly came into the game in the 9th I started getting giddy because of his recent history and the general consensus of knowledgeable guys here, so it was only a matter of time.

Yeah, yeah, if Kershaw doesn't give up back-to-back home runs in the 8th the game isn't tied (at least in this timeline) going into the 9th, but as was pointed out in the OMNICHATTER Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto are not some September AA callups, those guys are well known for their hitting prowess, one a RHB, the other a LHB so just on platoon matchups alone Roberts was in a bit of a jam.

Sure it stings now, but I'm not particularly worried about the Dodgers' future. The Nationals, with their bullpen and untried manager, were lucky to squeak out a win. That was a great series.

I really don't think going to Kershaw was the wrong move. Writers have been bemoaning not using Adam Kolarek, but he's not some awesome shutdown reliever.

I always thought LZ was a level-headed guy. Love his writing.

Seems like this is an easy to hang this on Kershaw. His ERA for the game 54 and his FIP was 75.

Not that this was a nice thing to do, of course.

Correction: "the game isn't tied going to the bottom of the 8th" in which the Dodgers had 3 outs to untie it, same in the 9th. Everything affects everything, so I'll need that guy from Men In Black II to show me some alternate timelines.

If not for Kershaw giving up back to back homers Roberts never gets the chance to bring in Kelly. I think it's reasonable to hang a lot of blame on Kershaw for this game. The reaction by this babies as Davo rightly calls them is over the top but...well these little Barstool Sports reading types are gonna do what they do.

Unfortunately for Kershaw, there were no Joe Kelly jerseys handy when the mob leaped into action.

If you are referring to the "The moment was captured on video by LZ Granderson of the Los Angeles Times, who decided to run over the jersey." I thought so too but the video shows him about to run over it. Not sure if there is another of him actually doing so but it's odd...he actually calls the guy over and tells him to put it in front of his car. Not sure if the whole thing was sarcasm or what.

Much as I'm sympathetic to the sympathy for Kershaw the Myth --- when you enter a deciding game 5 and give up back to back homers to blow a late lead, yeah.... You ARE going to be the storyline.

I don't say Kershaw the Myth in a backhanded way -- just that yeah, it's Clayton Kershaw the best SP of his generation again (fairly or not, total resume or not) shitting the postseason bed.

The pitch to rendon was just a real nice piece of hitting by a great hitter. Sometimes you get beat.

The pitch to Soto was a fat meatball that any of the Nats might have hit out, if not 450 feet.

Cool move to buy a $600 game-worn Kershaw jersey - then destroy it. Keep up the good work.
