Another injunction sought against ex-Rays’ Dukes

Another woman has asked a judge to protect her from ex-Rays player Elijah Dukes, saying he sent her threatening text messages.

Amanda E. Reese, 23, was granted a temporary injunction for protection against domestic violence on Dec. 10. She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning to seek extended protection.

“At this point, I fear for me and my child’s life, due to his past history with his estranged wife,” Reese wrote in her petition to the court.

You gotta think there's very little chance this guy's story end's well.

"ex-Rays'" doesn't work. There's no team called the "ex-Rays", although maybe there should be. Just saying "ex-Ray" would be more grammatical.

But at any rate, the Nationals are now one of the teams I most want to see when they come to visit Pittsburgh.

Hmm, June 10 to 12. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon. Not the ideal dates.

Is this game on national TV?

Unless it's Sidney Crosby or Ben Roethlisberger bobblehead night.

I think the Nats were in town for Bob Walk bobblehead night last year. If the fans won't turn out for him, who WILL they turn out for?

RTFA

These are her charges against him.

"At this point, I fear for me and my child's life, due to his past history with his estranged wife," She said they met in August and split in October.
So she knew this going in.

Reese says Dukes sent her a text message on Oct. 23 that stated she would ..
"have to deal with the consequences" and
"don't let me see you when I come home"
and "it's a promise, now make your move."
This could be anything .. Is that even newsworthy? How about .. "They had a fight" .. the SPTimes really has an axe to grind when it comes to Elijah Dukes. He is not even there anymore.

On Nov. 24, according to Reese, Dukes came to her home to discuss an incident that took place in his home before their split. After that visit, she said, he has been calling her home at inappropriate times.

what she really means is, he came over a month later, got some, and has kept calling back for another booty call, at normal booty call times.

sheesh. I guess it is how you spin the story , eh ..

"It's on," Dukes said during a 5 a.m. phone call, according to Reese.

what does this even mean?

I guess it depends upon the definition of 'on'

those are her charges

Someone really needs to confiscate Mr. Duke's Sidekick.

What the hell is your point, Gambling Rent? I'm willing to admit you're more familiar with the situation than the woman herself, if you provide some proof that you can judge the true nature of Dukes's apparent threats better than she can. Maybe you're her cousin and you know that she habitually does things like...lying in order to seek publicity or something, by asking judges for restraining orders? Is that what's really going on? Is she one of those wacky women who blow things out of proportion?

My wife is an emergency services dispatcher in a major metropolitan area. Today she had two “fun” calls.

First: “Grandpa just stabbed grandma. No, she’s not breathing. She’s dead. No, he’s not here, he left.” The kid was six years old.

Second: “My grandson was burned by his mother with an iron last night. There’s an iron shaped burn mark on his chest, one on his arm, and one on his wrist. He didn’t want me to call the police, but I thought I should. No, I don’t know his mother’s name or where she lives.” Twelve years old.

If there’s a child in danger, you have to take it seriously.

jwb,

There's some interesting information, or lack thereof, in that second call.

I'll grant you that, if you'll grant that this woman has to take some responsibility for her children. She had to know (true or false) the allegations against Dukes going in, and she had no problems exposing her children to him in the month and half that they dated.

Crispix, most of that was an attempt at humor, poorly i guess. The other part is a plea to not jump to conclusions. The SPTimes DOES have an axe to grind when it comes to Dukes. Pretty much every story you have ever read about Dukes transgressions as a baseball player, has been broken by .. .. the SP times.

The other papers in the area tend to stay out of it until it becomes major news. But it is spurned on by the times.
I am not a fan of papers reporting the inner workings of divorces.

Im actually thinking of getting an preemptive injunction against Elijah myself... you know, just in case...

There's absolutely no indication of when the woman became aware of Dukes' history with his wife in the quotations above.

there is also no idication of Dukes hitting anybody, but he can't get a job. Does he have anger management issues, probably. But I can't remember any stories of him actually hitting anybody. Just threats during a nasty divorce, that she took to the paper.
There are countless number of players in the the game today, that have "beat up their wifes". Is it disgusting, yes. I call Curt Schilling on his short sighted morals all the time with regards to his short stop.

And yet they make millions and you cheer them.

This paper published his nasty divorce, and thats wrong!

Heck, I bet the real news in #12 didn't even get a mention, yet this kid is being blackballed to sell papers.

its wrong.

"You dead, dawg, I ain't even bulls-------. Your kids, too."

Stupid paper. Why can't they let a man threaten his wife and kids in peace?

A lot of people may be willing to give someone a chance. Maybe Dukes told this woman that the stuff with his wife was all lies and she believed it for whatever reason. Maybe he can be charming at times.

I think it's ridiculous to insinuate that because someone has been accused of abusing women in the past, any woman who proceeds to date them deserves what she gets. She shouldn't have to be afraid for her life.

If anything, I feel it's better to err on the side of caution in these kind of disputes. If they're broken up, what reason does he have to keep coming around and calling her? That's threatening behavior, no matter whether it's a man or a woman doing it. At the very least, he needs to move on with his life and if the courts are needed in order to emphasize that fact to him, I'm all for it.

"She had to know (true or false) the allegations against Dukes going in..."

Not so much, no. As much attention as we pay to baseball, there are a lot more people out there who know absolutely nothing about it, and it wouldn't be surprising if this woman were one of those.

At which point, you're counting on Dukes to be upfront and honest about his past legal problems in order for her to make an informed decision, and how likely is that if he's trying to get into this woman's pants? If he didn't tell her, and she only found out partway through the relationship (which sounds like what was happening here), then she really didn't do anything wrong.

Good.
So we all agree that there could be any list of things that happened here, we just do not know. Its tabloid journalism at it's best. and we won't jump to conclusions. ;)

I wish it wasn't with my team. But he has one.

Huh? It's a simple report of another woman seeking an injunction against Dukes. How is that tabloid journalism? You prefer it simply not be reported?

Judge dismisses injunction against Nationals' Elijah Dukes

Associated Press - December 18, 2007 1:14 PM ET

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A judge has dismissed a Tampa woman's request for a restraining order against Washington Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes.

Dukes appeared in court alone today. But Amanda Reese wasn't. Dukes replied "no" when the Hillsborough County judge asked him whether he had anything to do Reese's absence. The judge then dismissed her request for an injunction.

#20, There is a huge difference between suggesting that she made some foolish choices and saying that she "deserves what she gets"!!! That phrase is your own.

Dukes appeared in court alone today. But Amanda Reese wasn't. Dukes replied "no" when the Hillsborough County judge asked him whether he had anything to do Reese's absence. The judge then dismissed her request for an injunction.

After the dismissal the judge asked "Same time next week Mr. Dukes?"

Dukes nodded in the affirmative. He then turned his head and looked at a young lady and stated: "It's on beeyatch ... daddy needs some love."

The woman in question turned out to be the judge's daughter. She promised her father that she'd be back from the junior prom before midnight.

Somewhere a wolf howled.

A little creative license.
