AOL SportsBlog: Ben Hendrickson’s Dad is an Internet Troll

So why are we discussing such a minor trade? Because apparently, the spectacle of watching his son publicly fail prompted Hendrickson’s father Graham to make a spectacle of himself on a popular Brewers message board at BrewersFan.net [...]

While rude, that message was hardly inflammatory, but that’s because he apparently saved his profanity-laced tirades for private messages to other members, which led to him getting permanently banned from the site.

Rob Base is Ben Hendrickson's dad?

At least HIS FATHER ISN'T THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY.

I found this story very sad. In that very limited way characteristic of the internet, I hope "things work out for Ben and his father."

Speaking of the internet ... the message as posted was "rude" only if the admins of the blog are relying on standards of decorum taken from a Trollope novel.

Good Lord! Talk about a blast from the past.

This happens a lot on a Sox message board. Off the top of my head there are at least 5 relatives of players in the organizations who actively post on the board and it can be very touch-and-go with them. On one hand, you don't want to restrict posters from posting what amounts to being the cold hard truth. On the other hand, you don't want to alienate posters who can provide a perspective few on the site can offer.

Speaking of relatives and blasts from the past- what was Jerry Reinsdorf's sister's name?

A friend of mine was tossed off IMDb for blowing his cool over how many Chihuahuas died in the Jayne Mansfield crash.

As far as I know he's not related to Mansfield...but he has an adogable Chihuahua named Scrunch.

Hell, the first post I looked at on that Milwaukee board was edited because of "excessive punctuation"...bunch of commies over there if you can't handle a little !!!!!!!.

at least it wasn't signed "cordially"...

(real blast from the past).

speaking of which...one person was a disgruntled taxi driver, the other founded a publication which was on the times best seller list. interesting contrast in people

(no knock on good cabbies).

Speaking of relatives and blasts from the past- what was Jerry Reinsdorf's sister's name?

A while ago I had a nice exchange of e-mails with Jerry Reinsdorf's brother. We knew several people in common.

Once again thanks to you few good people who really do understand the game of Baseball... And the best of luck with this terribly run organization...

Damn Brewers, causing his son to garner a 7.41 ERA!

banned from the site? that could never happen here.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: March 28, 2007 at 11:50 PM (#2319932)
The Brewers are a terribly run organization, while his son is going to the head of the class for quality run organizations? I mean the old man should take a step back and look at the organization that decided it was worth picking up his son? Doesn't that tell him the value that his son is perceived to have.

Hendrickson had passed though waivers a week or so ago, too.

Ben Hendrickson is better than everyone.
   17. jim in providence Posted: March 29, 2007 at 02:09 AM (#2319990)
A friend of mine

A friend. Sure ...

I mean, who doesn't love Chihuahuas? The guy the who took that horrible "Scrunch" photo, I suppose, but he's just one guy.
   18. Lujack Posted: March 29, 2007 at 01:16 PM (#2320141)
He should have his children taken away!
   19. Schilling's Sprained Ankiel Posted: March 29, 2007 at 02:01 PM (#2320154)
Sounds more like he should have his children sent down.

As always.

Maurice Bichette was an entertaining denizen of usenet. He'd praise Dante to the heavens and get personally offended by anything bad that was said about Dante as a player. So naturally, we made sure to say lots of bad things about Dante as a player and made lots of random eating jokes about Dante, which didn't amuse Maurice to the least.
   22. Designated Sitter (GGC) Posted: March 29, 2007 at 02:20 PM (#2320164)
Okay, I know that Roger Maynard was the cabbie. I didn't hang out on USENET, but I know some of the oldtimers like Dial and Szym who did. Who was the author?
   23. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: March 29, 2007 at 02:37 PM (#2320181)
Coincedentally enough, Erik Cordier's dad posts off-and-on at the Royals Scout message board. He's been nothing but a class act and had a nice post when Erik got traded wishing the Royals well.

Anyone know what the offending post was for Ben's dad?
   24. Sexy Lizard Posted: March 29, 2007 at 03:13 PM (#2320205)
putting him on waivers and trading him to the Royals for unheralded catching prospect Maxim St. Pierre.

Maxim St. Pierre has an incredible name.
   25. Designated Sitter (GGC) Posted: March 29, 2007 at 03:25 PM (#2320217)
Maxim St. Pierre sounds like a Ron Mexico name.
   26. Damon Rutherford Posted: March 29, 2007 at 05:48 PM (#2320306)
Benhold!
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2007 at 06:29 PM (#2320327)
Brett Tomkos brother used to post on the ESPN Cardinal board, he was a pleasant enough fellow. Said nothing but good things when he left.

Lori (think it's Lori) Masset used to post at the Newberg Report boards until the trade. She was pretty classy.
