AP: Bonds gets cheered in Pittsburgh

How Nice.

“That goes to show you Pittsburgh people, they understand the game,” Bonds said. “They were always great to me when I was here. When I was here, we never got booed. We brought a lot of excitement and they appreciated that.”
“It was nice, it was great, I was happy,” Bonds said of the warm welcome. “After all the years you played here and you come back and get that kind of welcome, it’s nice.”

“He got a really nice hand, and I’m glad,” said Paul Maholm, “He deserved it. He’s had a great career and it all started here for him. It was a great thrill just pitching to him because I grew up watching him just like everybody else. It was kind of cool to get him out a couple of times.”

“I don’t know, could be,” Bonds said when asked if this might be his final stop in Pittsburgh. “I’ll wait and see.”

Rajai Davis: 8-for-19 (.421), four doubles, a triple and six runs against Pitt. :)

I watched it on TV and I can say for sure the crowd reaction was between 11% and 32.5% boos.

The first time he came back, he was booed by everyone.
When he stepped into the Pirates clubhouse pre-game to say hi, no one even made eye contact with him.

By Pittsburgh standards, that hardly counts as booing at all. Yinzers boo pretty much all ex-Pirates, regardless of circumstance. They booed Brian Giles after he got traded. They booed Matt Stairs after the team refused to re-sign him, even though he said he loved it here and didn't want to leave.

I think he was being sarcastic. ;)

Also, how is this possible? I thought no one outside of SF could possibly stand Bonds.

I guess the media got another one wrong.

The Pirates just took four of five from the Giants. At this point they'd cheer the arrival of anyone wearing a Giants jersey.

The one exception to the boo rule was Sid Bream. He was cheered as a Brave in 1992, but that was before the playoffs. Wonder what will happen when Kendall comes in.
