ok, i'll stop
At the plate, Nippert got a called strike three for the first out of the inning, and let out the loudest F-bomb I've ever heard.
I never knew pitchers took so much pride in their hitting.
Loudest F-Bomb I've ever heard was I think in Milwaukee? by Chris Carpenter...because I heard it on TV. It was a blowout so the crowd was quiet and there weren't too many people there in the first place. Carpenter left a 1-1 curveball above the strike zone and before the pitch even hit the mitt, all you heard was him screaming "****" with a pump of his fist in anger. The announcers couldn't even ignore it and said something along the lines of "I think he was saying 'Truck'". They showed a replay and it was one of the funniest faces I've ever seen.
Was it inside? Maybe he was just yelling "duck."
a) overwhelm his impressive volume, or
b) do anything about the incredible close-up, which meant that even if you couldn't hear him, you could read his lips.
It's just another reason why I miss having Tony Phillips as an active player.
Lemongello looked like he might become something pretty good -- 215 IP, 102 ERA+ at age 21. He had a pretty curveball. I don't know which of his handful of seasons it was, but they were playing at Wrigley and the umpire was squeezing him like nobody's business. He threw gorgeous curveball after gorgeous curveball and the ump consistently called them balls. And he lost it.
Now I think this is before directional mikes -- or at least WGN had enough sense not to point them anywhere near players. So the things he screamed on the mound are perhaps lost to history. After he was ejected and he's heading towards the dugout, he turns and raises not one but both middle fingers high and is screaming \"#### you" at the umpire. I believe \"#### you #######\" but it is for these reasons that one wishes it was on youtube. The other reason was poor Jack Brickhouse ... I can't remember what he said but, at the time, it seemed unintentionally hilarious.
