AP: Molina help Giants break loose to beat Cardinals

Bengie Molina hit three doubles and drove in three runs and the Giants reached season highs for runs, hits and winning margin in an 8-2 victory on Sunday.

San Francisco won the season series 4-3, with all seven games played in a span of 11 days.
...
John Bowker hit his third career home run, all against the Cardinals, and Aaron Rowand drove in two runs as the Giants took two of three and handed St. Louis its first series loss of the season. Molina, a somewhat sheepish cleanup hitter, has 11 RBIs in 11 games and a team-leading 13 overall.

“I’m not a fourth hitter at all, I don’t hit home runs,” Molina said. “Seriously, I’m the kind of guy who is happy with the win. Getting the RBIs was huge.”

Doesn’t losing a season series to the 2008 Giants get you kicked out of the National League?

Two of the 4 losses were to Lincecum, though. Otherwise, no excuse. This Bowker guy is ridiculous.

The Dodgers must be mighty embarassed to be looking up to the Giants.

As much as I've criticized the Giants recently... congratulatioins on taking the season series from St. Louis!

Of course, this is probably the high point of the season.

The Giants have a 7-1 record when Tim Lincecum or Jonathan Sanchez starts. The Giants have a 1-10 record when Barry Zito, Matt Cain or Kevin Correia starts.

SF Chronicle:
"[The Diamondbacks] can be beaten too," said second baseman Ray Durham, who has two doubles and a single since yanking Kirk Rueter's ears for luck before Saturday's win.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and all that, I suppose...

I won Vegas 'over' bets with 06 Marlins, 07 Nationals, and have 08 Giants this year.

It's rare that the REALLY bad teams are exactly the ones that people bet out of the gate....

Yeah, while I think this Giants team sucks, they're not exactly 1984-5 bad. Still, I might almost enjoy that if it got Crazy Crab back. What a great mascot.

In re: Lincecum/Sanchez, between the two of them they're striking out every fourth batter they face, and angling for more. When you strike out every fourth guy you face, you might be harder than usual to beat. Sanchez, notably, survived today despite waking up 'woozy'.

I am not sure what speaks more highly of him, today's performance or his response to Lincecum's apparent challenge (follow the link in #6) to a to a strikeout competition. As undersung local writer Hank Schulman put it, 'Sanchez demonstrated his sanity by replying, "C'mon, man. I can't do that."'

Lincecum's good, but he still has to work with the support of the Giant offense.

Yeah, while I think this Giants team sucks, they're not exactly 1984-5 bad.

This Giants team has better starting pitching than the mid-80s Giants, but those teams had significantly better hitting, especially the '84 team. Hard to say which is worse, on balance.

"since yanking Kirk Rueter's ears for luck"

So THAT'S why he looks like that.

If Durham gets anymore desperate, I really don't wanna know what part of Reuter he'll start yanking next.

Sort of. It's nice beating the Cards, but being ahead of the Dodgers at any point in a season with such dire projections is a high point. And here we are, for the second time in the young season, looking down at the Bums! Stop the season, break out the tickertape, it can't possibly get better than this.

Does Sabean know that bringing random unqualified minor leaguers up the majors does not qualify as a legitimate youth movement? I mean, Emmanuel Burris was legitimately one of the worst hitters in A-ball last year and he wasn't good at all at his short time in double-A this year. He has no business on a major league roster, position-scarcity be damned.

I was listening to tonight's game on the way home. I have no idea what the score is, but Giants fans get a dollar off bleacher tickets to Tuesday's game with the Rox for each Giants pitcher strikeout tonight. Just enter promotion code giantsk. I think there may also be a game happening on the field, but Jon Miller and Dave Fleming have given no indication of such a thing. Just save on bleacher tickets for Tuesday.

That is all.
