AP: Royals outfielder shoots TV reporter in face with pellet during locker room interview

Royals outfielder Emil Brown hit a television reporter near the eye with a pellet from a small plastic gun in the Kansas City clubhouse Friday afternoon.

A team spokesman said Brown didn’t mean to shoot KMBC sports reporter Karen Kornacki with the plastic pellet gun. Brown started in left field Friday night against the Texas Rangers.
...
“It was certainly an accident,” Royals spokesman David Holtzman said. “He wasn’t shooting at anybody.”

Kornacki was interviewing shortstop Tony Pena Jr. before the game when she felt the pellet hit near her left eye, said Gary Roberts, KMBC’s assistant news director.

That's the way it happened.

-What happened to your head when you got hit?

Well, my head went back and to the left

-Say that again

Back and to the left

-Back and to the left, back and to the left.

That's all he can do -- vice-presidential impersonations?

(apologies to Hawkeye Pierce and B.J. Hunnicutt)

He only shot her today. She shouldn't be able to get a hold of his assets unless he shot her at least once a day for three years.

I'm sure Brown will say it was all in good fun... but if a fan had shot him with a Nerf gun during a game he would have been outraged. And then we would have to endure the latest round of anguished media complaints about feral fans run amuck...

I doubt it was an accident. If Vegas had pre-season odds for this kind of thing, it would have said E Brown 2-5, A Belle 2-1, field 10-1.

Kornacki was struck near her left eye by a tiny red plastic pellet that was fired from a toy gun.

It was an accident by Royals outfielder Emil Brown, who wasn’t expecting the pellet to ricochet and hit her.

“It was kind of a freaky thing,” Brown said after the game.

“I just want to say I’m sorry and I feel terrible about it. Karen is one of the nicest people, especially as far as the media is concerned. This happened to her, and I feel absolutely awful about it.

“I want to make sure she is OK. I’ve tried to call her. I didn’t have a chance to leave a voicemail. I would much rather talk to her than leave a voicemail.”

According to the KMBC site, the pellet shattered her contact lens and scratched her eye. Not pleasant...

And the KMBC link in post #20 has a nice big ad for the LasikPlus Vision Center.

Emil Brown's not gonna like the ad... especially the big green dollar sign inside the eyeball.
