AP: Va.baseball legend’s grave found near Chicago

Hall of Famer Pete Hill’s grave has finally been found.

The grave of baseball great John Preston “Pete” Hill believed to be the only Hall of Famer whose burial site had been lost to history was discovered Monday in a suburb of Chicago by Dr. Jeremy Krock, coordinator of the Negro Leagues Baseball Grave Marker Project.

Elected to the Hall of Merit in "1927".

Here are links to Hill's own discussion thread and the general 1927 discussion thread in which Hill was talked about.

Alsip is the hometown of the legendary Ligue father and son duo. That cemetery is quite large and is visible from I-294 between the Cicero and Harlem exits. It is not far away from the infamous Burr Oak cemetery. We are lucky he was not buried there.

You're both very welcome.

Sell a plot, bury them, dig em up, dump remains in a vast pit, resell the plot, bury the next guy.

Wow, what good luck. I mean, what are the chances this grave was discovered by a member of the grave marker project? This could easily have been found by, say, a location scout for an Amityville Horror remake and the whole site could have been lost forever.

Which is to say, it's cool that such a project exists and I'm glad to hear they're making progress.
