flipping again. New page for the night games!

The Nationals have forced Dylan Axelrod to throw 30 pitches in the first inning alone, and it's not over yet. I love patience.

EDIT: And that's why you tire 'em out.

WTF Chris Davis good god

Nice LaRoche.

Went to LF. Wasn't a cheap Fenway HR either.

Chris Davis go boom-boom.

Harper is .394/.394/.788 so far

He's never going to cut it with that kind of plate discipline.

wSF/C - Slit-fingered fastball runs above average per 100 pitches

Does it hurt throwing that ?

I keep waiting for Alex Rios to make an out, and I keep waiting in vain.

woo, Pedroia.
   111. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:04 PM (#4411233)
Kind of like how I keep waiting for Haren to have an easy inning.
   112. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:05 PM (#4411235)
I prefer the silt-fingered fastball. They called mt The Green Thumb back in the delta.
   113. Gamingboy Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:08 PM (#4411239)
Aceves is still going to be pitching, so I'm not worried for the Orioles.

The Lost Wages Kid is on fire.
This sounds like the sort of thing a Steely Dan fan would write. Am I correct?
   116. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:18 PM (#4411248)
Whoo-hoo! Denard Span steals a base.
   117. Esoteric Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:30 PM (#4411259)
Okay, sure -- it's early. But I'm ready for Chris Young to brought up from AAA to take Dan Haren's place in the Nats rotation.
   118. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: April 11, 2013 at 08:30 PM (#4411260)
We may as well have just kept John Lannan and saved ourselves a bunch of money for this garbage.

You know what would be kind of funny? If the Red Sox pitching staff was miraculously healthy and productive, the Sox won the AL East, and John Farrell won the American League Manager of the Year award.

I'm going to take a page from the reaction to my earlier Blue Jays "wouldn't it be hilarious?" speculation and say that no...no, that would not be funny at all.

Ryan Zimmerman -- Ol' Reliable.

The Z-Man!

BTW, in case anyone's interested in a really great early R.E.M. concert, I uploaded one in that "Musical Grand Slams" thread. Just figured hey, why not pimp it here.
   124. Esoteric Posted: April 11, 2013 at 09:17 PM (#4411292)
Okay, that Jeff Keppinger flyball out to Denard Span -- that right there is exactly the sort of play that Span makes look easy, but which is actually extremely difficult.

123. Thanks, I love REM!

Is Soriano going to come in for a third day in a row? I hope not.
   127. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: April 11, 2013 at 10:01 PM (#4411314)
He's warming up, so I guess so.
   128. Gamingboy Posted: April 11, 2013 at 10:12 PM (#4411320)
The new pitcher for Boston- Alex Wilson- is the first MLB player in history born in Saudi Arabia (he's presumably an oil brat).

MLB Network strikes again!

Greg Amsinger: "Why did the Angels move Mike Trout to the two hole?"

Mitch Williams: "Because they wanted Bourjos to be the lead-off hitter."

Greg Amsinger: "But Bourjos is hitting 8th tonight...Callaspo is batting lead-off!"

Mitch Williams:"WHATEVER!"

Nothing like getting swept for your opening home series.
   133. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 11, 2013 at 11:56 PM (#4411381)
And now they bring in Jepsen? Game's dead.

GODDAMMIT! STOP USING KEVIN JEPSEN! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP!
   135. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:09 AM (#4411387)
MLB Network just said benches have cleared in SD... what happened?
   136. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:12 AM (#4411389)
Greinke hit Carlos Quentin.
   137. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:12 AM (#4411390)
WHOA!!!
   138. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:13 AM (#4411392)
The benches cleared AGAIN as Greinke was escorted off by...a trainer? Matt Kemp is fuming.
   139. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:14 AM (#4411393)
Greinke threw a shoulder block at Quentin when Quentin charged him. His shoulder may be hurt....
   140. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:15 AM (#4411394)
Greinke did not back down, it should be noted. He threw down his glove, and meet Quentin with a shoulder block. He did not get knocked down. Then they tussled, benches cleared. Greinke came up with some scratches.
   141. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:16 AM (#4411397)
Earlier in the game a pitch sailed over Matt Kemp's head. I don't think it was retaliation on Greinke's part, but Kemp was very vocal during the brawl.
   142. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:16 AM (#4411398)
Game is still on hold while we figure out who has been tossed.
   143. Guapo Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:19 AM (#4411399)
Didn't Quentin get hit on a 3-2 pitch? Didn't look intentional to me.
   144. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:19 AM (#4411401)
Kemp is gone. Capuano is warming up and since he is replacing an injured pitcher, he can and is taking his sweet time.
   145. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:20 AM (#4411402)
That was bizarre. I loved how Vin Scully was throughout. Refreshing compared to how some guys call bench-clearings like they are heavyweight bouts.
   146. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:21 AM (#4411403)
I don't think it was intentional either. I swear I detected an "oops" bit of body language from Greinke as soon as it happened.
   147. WSPanic Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:21 AM (#4411404)
That pitch was NOT that far inside. And nowhere near Quentin's head.

For someone that gets as hit as much as he does, you'd think he'd be more used to it. He's all over the plate.
   148. Guapo Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:25 AM (#4411407)
According to bb-ref Greinke had previously hit Quentin twice (in 28 PA). Wonder if that had something to do with past history (although Quentin gets hit a lot).
   149. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:25 AM (#4411408)

Maybe my memory isn't that good, but I don't recall Craig Biggio getting into any brouhahas.
   150. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:26 AM (#4411409)
I don't doubt it. I'm sure Quentin knows that Greinke has hit him twice as well as bb-ref does.
   151. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:27 AM (#4411410)
Is it true that Greinke got hurt? Or did he sort of fake it to try and draw more time for Capuano?
   152. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:28 AM (#4411411)
The LA Dodgers official tweet:

For the record, Zack Greinke took Carlos Quentin's charge like a middle linebacker.
   153. PeteF3 Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:28 AM (#4411412)
Greinke was ejected, so Capuano would have had all the time he wanted no matter what.
   154. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:29 AM (#4411414)
   155. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:29 AM (#4411415)
I suppose it's possible that he is faking it (he's clever enough to), but I'm not sure if he would've been kicked out.
   156. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:32 AM (#4411420)
Cespedes sent a ball well up into the faux-rocks in Anaheim.
   157. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:32 AM (#4411421)
Oh was he? I missed the official word.
   158. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:34 AM (#4411422)
At least Greinke used his non-pitching shoulder.
   159. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:38 AM (#4411423)
On MLB Network they are showing that Greinke and Quentin do have a history back when they both were in the AL Central.
   160. DA Baracus Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:39 AM (#4411424)
The second part of the brawl is the best, because everything calmed down and then Jerry Hairston came flying out of the dugout screaming and pointing at someone on the Padre bench.
   161. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:44 AM (#4411427)
April 8, 2009 - Royals 2, White Sox 0.

There was some drama in the fourth, when Greinke hit Carlos Quentin between the shoulders after throwing one high and tight in his previous at-bat. Quentin took about a step toward the mound, before plate umpire Bill Hohn jumped in front of him. "The first at-bat kind of scared me because you never want to do that to anyone," Greinke said. "It happens. You hit guys sometimes."
   162. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:46 AM (#4411428)
@jonmorosi: Oney Guillen: “greinke has hit carlos many many times ... told me. if he does it again im going for him.
   163. Guapo Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:50 AM (#4411430)
It's too bad Kemp got ejected because it would have been fun to see his next plate appearance.
   164. Gamingboy Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:51 AM (#4411431)
Ballplayers never forget.
   165. Rob_Wood Posted: April 12, 2013 at 12:59 AM (#4411436)
they are going bat #### crazy on mlb network (mitch williams vs greg amsinger)
   166. Dan Posted: April 12, 2013 at 01:17 AM (#4411441)
You'd think Quentin would have trouble keeping track of everyone that's hit him, since he gets HBP over 20 times every season he gets 400+ AB.
   167. Morph Posted: April 12, 2013 at 01:34 AM (#4411446)
If Biggio had kept a list and checked it twice, the Astros would have turned into a moveable wrasslin show. The Killer B's could have worn bumble bee outfits. Might have been the little something those teams needed to put them over the top.
   168. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 12, 2013 at 01:52 AM (#4411449)
Fractured left collarbone for Greinke.
   169. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: April 12, 2013 at 01:58 AM (#4411452)
Wow, that's a hell of a video. When Josh Beckett's your peacemaker, you know ####'s wild.

Really shitty for Greinke.
   170. RollingWave Posted: April 12, 2013 at 04:57 AM (#4411464)
there must be a joke in there somewhere that an injury involving Carlos Quinten and he's not the one that got hurt.
