April 16, 2013 OMNICHATTER

In days like this, things like baseball provide a good escape… so today, let us escape.

16 games today due to how Mets-Rockies was delayed. In addition, many teams that did not have it on Monday hold Jackie Robinson Day festivities. 42.

Today marks the return of Francoeur to Atlanta since his last appearance (in a Mets uni) on August 31, 2010.

Today marks the return of Francoeur to Atlanta since his last appearance (in a Mets uni) on August 31, 2010.

I hope he likes it so much he decides to stay.

Any truth to the rumors the Delta Hub can't get within 100 yards of Francoeur because of an imposed restraining order?

Yes.

More day games, please.

Those of you who like knuckleballers (i.e. everyone), the Red Sox have disabled Joel Hanrahan and called up knuckleballer Steven Wright.

Deadpan knuckleballer Steven Wright?
   7. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: April 16, 2013 at 12:22 PM (#4415633)
Does he only exclusively throw knuckleballs? I remember liking him when he was drafted and he was like a sidearmer that threw at different angles. Didn't know if he still did that at all.

I was just going to complain about no day game but there's a 3 o clock! Huzzah!
   9. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: April 16, 2013 at 12:56 PM (#4415689)
Unfortunately the 3 o'clock game is the result of last night's game being cancelled by a snowstorm, the conditions produced by which may further lead to today's doubleheader being rescheduled into a tripleheader.
   10. boteman Posted: April 16, 2013 at 02:35 PM (#4415843)
Here's hoping for a quadrupleheader!!!!11!11

He's still trying to figure out why you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway.

I don't know what it's like downtown, but it's sunny where I am, about ten miles away. This right now looks like the best window to get any baseball in today. If they can't play now, I'd be surprised if they get either game in.
   13. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 16, 2013 at 03:21 PM (#4415932)
OK, I guess they're in a snow removal delay. Get on it, fellas. Time's a wastin'.

Wow that's harsh. I mean, I have been b1tching about Hanrahan as much as the next guy, but I would have stopped short of physical violence. Almost certainly..
   15. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 16, 2013 at 04:25 PM (#4416009)
Now the Rockies are saying first pitch will be at 3:10 local time. If this was a normal doubleheader, it wouldn't be any big deal, but it's going to be tough to get the split doubleheader in. There are going to be a lot of cold fans hanging around the gates waiting for Game One to end.

Per a recent mlbtr post: Bud Norris earns easily the least of anyone who is his team's highest paid player*, at 3m. Who's second (and the only other guy on this list not making eight figures)?
* Forget about Wandy Rodriguez, for a second. He's partially paid by the Astros - he's not an Astro.

I would guess a Marlin, but I'm having trouble thinking of who is left on the Marlins.

So I'll guess Coco Crisp.

After last year the Sox are holding their players accountable. Enough ####### around. Rumor has it that Jackie Bradley Jr. is one strikeout away from just being called "Jackie Bradley."

In this article about Salvador Perez, Bruce Chen ascends into a rarely-reached nirvana of Ultimate Lazy Nicknaming.

""On this team," says pitcher Bruce Chen, "everyone keeps talking about Hos, Mous, Gordo, and Billy, and somehow Salvy's left behind."
   24. Dan Posted: April 16, 2013 at 05:44 PM (#4416089)
Gordo? When did the Royals trade for Pablo Sandoval?
   25. Dan Posted: April 16, 2013 at 06:09 PM (#4416107)
Keith Hernandez apparently LOVES Carlos Gonzalez's swing. He doesn't seem to have enough superlatives to describe it. "It's almost perfection."

Wow, Helton is a ####### statue on defense now. That ball hit by Tejada should've been a 3-6-3 or 3-6-1 DP ball. Instead it's an RBI single.

Carlos Gonzalez has a triple and a second-deck homer in his first two at-bats. Rockies announcer George Frazier pointed out that these were "two of the hardest things for the cycle."

Dillon Gee's velocity has been down this year. His fastball was averaging 87.8 MPH prior to today's game. That's down a few miles per hour from last year. I like Gee but it's going to be tough for him to be good if he's lost a few MPH after the injury.

Yeah, I was in a bar in Denver a couple weeks ago and could smell someone smoking the sticky-icky. But I looked around and quickly realized he wasn't in the bar, because you can't smoke inside anywhere. He must have been out on the sidewalk.

It struck me how times have changed - you can smoke dope, but for God's sake, just don't do it in a bar!

WIth the delayed start, they turned it into a normal DHer rather than a split DHer, so that makes sense. They won't have time to clear out the stadium between games anyway, so why not make it official?
   48. DA Baracus Posted: April 16, 2013 at 07:39 PM (#4416170)

So of course the first Royals batter hits a HR.

Earlier Jack Morris claimed that Josh Johnson should continue throwing sliders in the dirt (with a runner on third) because the hitter was sitting fastball and Arencibia had done a good job of blocking the slider. Next pitch was a blocked slider for a ball, then a slider for a wild pitch and a run.

[78] Not sure about a Roku.

I've got a Panasonic with internet (and MLB.tv built in).

But I'd have to think if Roku can do MLB.tv, you can change not only the Home/Away video feed selection, but the audio feed ("Park" only works if you've selected the Home video feed).

Nope. The app only does what the programmers chose to endow it with and the Roku doesn't have that. My new duz-it-all Sony BluRay player doesn't have the MLB app amongst its 50+ choices, so that's out. Oh well, there's always my PC.
