April 3rd, 2013 Omnichatter

Okay, uh, since it appears we are doing this every day, I guess I’ll try to do this until somebody tells me to stop (I really should check my e-mail)...

Anyway, full slate of 15 games today, ranging from two 2:10 ET starts (KC-CWS and TEX-HOU) to the late games at 10.

Thanks Biff. Figured it would be a rather empty 3-5 but didn't feel like looking it up.

First guy to have three infield hits on opening day since...DMITRI YOUNG!!

There's a fun stat

Brent Lillibridge's Cub career is not yet two games old, but I hate him almost as much as Aaron Miles.

I don't understand how he caught on as a starter somewhere. He couldn't even cut it for last year's Red Sox. He's just awful.

Seriously... I'd say it's the F Troop remake, but he seems destined to get 400 PAs. and what's with the damn turtleneck? It like one of those cones you put on a dog to keep him from gnawing on stitches.

I forget each off-season how annoying the Pirates announcers are. Even more so now that the team is good.
   206. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:20 PM (#4403764)
Oh Jesus, Lillibridge grinds out a decent at-bat and then watches one go over the heart of the plate.
   207. Lassus Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:20 PM (#4403766)
Why the hell would you take a middle reliever out with 2 outs and one man on base in a 8-1 game. That seems stupidly excessive.
   208. zonk Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:21 PM (#4403767)
Lillibridge livid because he sucks.

...and now we get Alberto Veryzer Roman Getz Gotay Nondescript Crap Random Utility Infielder Does It Really Matter Gonzalez.

Wow, that pitching line for Halladay is... just bizarre. 9 Ks in 3.1 IP with 2 HRs and lots of crooked H & R numbers. I'm going to guess there have not been many games where a pitcher has less than 4 IP but 9 Ks and gave up that many hits/runs.

Well, at least there's no chance the Phan base panics over the start...
   212. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:24 PM (#4403774)
Any Tigers fans lurking around right now? My Facebook is blowing up with people who are demanding Dombrowski get on the horn with Brian Wilson stat. The Tigers certainly have comparable in-house options already considering Wilson's reported dip in velocity, no?

It beats "Veryzer Roman Getz Gotay Nondescript Crap Random Utility Infielder Does It Really Matter".

He's not the starter - the starting second and third basemen are both hurt.

Of course, that still raises the question of how Ian Stewart is a starter.
   215. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:25 PM (#4403777)
Mike Napoli gets his first Red Sox hit. As everyone expected it would be, it was an infield hit.

There will be a lot of pressure on Washington tomm, as they go for 3 consecutive shutouts to open the season!

Because the other answer is Luis Valbuena.

I am really liking Wellington Castillo.

If he manages to Zambrano Brent Lillibridge at some point this season, I think he'll be my next jersey.

Hamel's line from last night -

5.0ip 7h 5k 5er 3hr

The Braves are going to strike out a lot, and hit a ton of HR's. I think it will be a good swap for them.

FWIW, I just ran these numbers in BBref:

<= 4 IP
>= 9 K
>= 5 R

And I got 2 occurrences from 1916 to 2013. I'm not a subscriber, so it won't give me the names, but it would appear Halladay's line tonight is rare indeed.

EDIT: 1916, not 1913
   238. Gamingboy Posted: April 03, 2013 at 10:03 PM (#4403814)
Brian Roberts still got it.
   239. Textbook Editor Posted: April 03, 2013 at 10:03 PM (#4403815)
Thanks, bobm... I must have done something goofy to only get the 2 names... or maybe 2 is what it gives you if you're a non-subscriber? (Now that I think of it, that's the more likely answer.)

Still, a rare pitching line.

I suppose more people would believe me if I said it before bobm posted the names, but seeing Halladay's line made me think 'Bobby Witt'.

The Orioles have a pretty decent lineup now, but it's going to be all about their pitching. It's almost impossible that their bullpen can repeat that incredible performance of last season.

So far today we have three 9th-inning walkoffs, including a come-from-behind walkoff and a walkoff coming after the road team tied it in the top of the inning, and we've got a game currently in the 11th in which the road team just got a go-ahead homer.

Good baseball today.

Ask me again in a few more innings.

Chapman is on my team, and he got the win tonight, so that will take some sting out of it. I love it when my closers snag a win.

Timmy k's the last dude to end the inning The run was scored on an errant pitch in the dirt. He wasn't hit hard, but he is throwing the ball everywhere but the strike zone.

Volstad in a jam

Might as well set up a macro key to type that for you this season.

Beckett's inability to blow away Lincecum in that situation sort of defines his decline, which is exacerbated by his stupidity. Got mad, tried to blow away a weak-hitting pitcher with nothing but hard stuff, and couldn't.

Strange how I haven't missed him much...

The dangers of playing platoon in fantasy: I benched Matt Joyce against the LHP Chen, and he did not start. But he entered the game in later innings to go 2-2 with the game-winning HR.

Oakland takes the lead, 4-2 in the 4th. Joe Saunders is NOT as good as Jason Vargas was in Seattle.

Where the **** was this patience in Boston Carl????

Fernando Rodney can now only give up eight runs the rest of the season to match his total from last year.

By the way, seeing New York hit a 3 run bomb in an almost empty stadium gave me 1975 flashbacks. I swore I heard Howard Cosell for a second there.

And apparently Lance Lynn isn't actually good after all.

Pete effing Kozma at it again.
How the Cardinals get production out of him and Decalso and their likes is a mystery.
I call it the Bo Hart effect!

Axford was completely owned tonight.

With Lincecum walking 7 in 5 IP, everybody looks patient.

Whilest we have Lassus here, perhaps I should ask his opinion on the latest season of Doctor Who...

I went away, but am back.

Moffat has been positively underwhelming at every turn, and downright pathetic at every other turn. The OH THE MYSTERY OF THE YOUNG PRETTY GIRL for the second ####### companion is a row is just one painful example. I cannot freaking wait for him to be gone.

With a little luck Timmy could leave the game with a win and some strikeouts, but with an ugly WHIP. Only one of the Dodger runs was earned.

Agree with you that Clara/Oswin/Oswald/whatever is basically Moffat smashing River Song and Amy into one character, although Jenna Louise-Coleman does give her a good charm and she has good chemistry with Smith. Really, the actors basically have carried Moffat-Who, with the writing (especially as far as the big arcs go) being hit or miss.

What is Skup Schumaker's walk-up music? It's not a pleasant sound.

No wait, the other Dodger run was unearned too; Kemp scored on a sac fly. Timmy pitched 5 shutout innings tonight.

Sandoval just saved the game with that double play. His agility always impresses me.
