April 3rd, 2013 Omnichatter

Okay, uh, since it appears we are doing this every day, I guess I’ll try to do this until somebody tells me to stop (I really should check my e-mail)...

Anyway, full slate of 15 games today, ranging from two 2:10 ET starts (KC-CWS and TEX-HOU) to the late games at 10.

Sandoval just saved the game with that double play. His agility always impresses me.

Why do I always hear you saying "for a fatty" at the end of that sentence?

He's not fast, but he's got good reflexes.

Because that's what I really meant.

Agree with you that Clara/Oswin/Oswald/whatever is basically Moffat smashing River Song and Amy into one character, although Jenna Louise-Coleman does give her a good charm and she has good chemistry with Smith. Really, the actors basically have carried Moffat-Who, with the writing (especially as far as the big arcs go) being hit or miss.

The chemistry is fantastic between the two. The individual episodes have been hit or miss. This newest with the wi-fi was a low point in the series(or at least as low as the stupid pirate episode) I think, but the next episode looks excellent. Clara's first episode was great(with the dalek world) and her second one was excellent. I don't have the visceral hatred for Moffat which a lot of people seem to have. The big arcs seem somewhat forced as far as the writing goes. They have this secret backstory that was pretty clearly not really thought out all the way through, that after dropping hints, they have to realize later and force the story.

####### Cardinals, can't keep a lead.

Matt Kemp 0-for-season.

Also, Chad Gaudin looks like Heath Bell, Jr. (body-wise, not pitch-wise).

Ooh, I Doctor Who hijack. As for the acting in Moffit-Who, I actually preferred Tennant as the Doctor, though Smith has been solid. I think the writing fell off quite a bit when Russel T Davies left, which had a bigger impact. In addition to forced story lines, they also completely ignored previously established rules of time travel. Like the time River Song jumped out a building and they caught her in the TARDIS, going back in time within the same time frame. And the predestination time loops got way overused in the Moffit-Smith era, imo.

Anyway, the reason I came to this thread was to post my disappointment at how bad the Dodgers are playing.

Dodger teamwork.

I like Moffat a lot, but HATE River Song and all the plots associated with her.

I liked Amy a lot in her first few episodes, and steadily grew to like her less - though I still think that on the whole she was a pretty successful character. Rory was great.

Moffat has a tendency to let things get away from him--too much complexity without keeping hold of an actual story--but I'll still take it over the RTD tendency to make his finales be The Biggest Event That Has Ever Happened in All of History EVARRRRRR!

Ya know, for an illegal immigrant this Romo guy is a pretty good pitcher.

Really? I loved the RTD finales. Daleks vs. Cybermen, the return of the Master, and the dalek episode that brought back all the companions were some of my favorite episodes. And speaking of finales, I'm still not sure how to make sense of the season 6 finale. Like the time traveling robot got killed while looking like the Doctor, so the universe got restored as if the Doctor had been killed? Or was there something I totally missed.

When he first came up with the Rays was stupidly rushed up for no good reason by Chuck Lamar I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that he would go on to have a 10 year career in the majors. Given his career so far however I am very surprised to see him still making major league rosters. He has actually been pretty consistently employed at the highest level, only in 2011 did he spend significant time in the minors after the age of 22.

Mitchell Boggs just hit Eric Chavez in the elbow. He was down for a minute or two but took his base. Poor bastard.

This Cardinals-Diamondbacks game is pretty wild.

Run out of pitchers on opening series matchup!

Run out of pitchers on opening series matchup!

Cardinals had Shelby Miller available, but didn't use him. They lost in 16.

Side note, Pennington was 3-3 with the walkoff hit after Al Hrabosky insulted his hitting on the air.
   316. Honkie Kong Posted: April 04, 2013 at 03:17 AM (#4403948)
And Pennington ends it! See, grit matters :)

"Excuse me if I am smiling," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "The things we practiced on, just being tough mentally, they hung in there."

Grit indeed matters!

Follow-up on the Slowey discussion. Apparently Dick Bremer got whiny on Twitter this morning when a couple of people called him out ("Oh, so you guys are entitled to your opinion, but I'm not?"). He definitely came off as a sanctimonious fool in the whole ordeal.
