Okay, uh, since it appears we are doing this every day, I guess I’ll try to do this until somebody tells me to stop (I really should check my e-mail)...
Anyway, full slate of 15 games today, ranging from two 2:10 ET starts (KC-CWS and TEX-HOU) to the late games at 10.

Roy Halladay on the mound today. Phillies got good news with Utley, will it continue?
And will BJ Upton get a hit as a Brave..watch and find out!
And lots of Braves fans are excited for the debut of Evan Gattis. Will h epull a Heyward and homer on his first AB!?
And I too like the omnichatters.
It just amazes me sometimes what
weMarwin Gonzalez can do.All times Eastern:

Red Sox (Clay Buchholz) vs Yankees (Hiroki Kuroda), 7:05
Cubs (Edwin Jackson) vs Pirates (Wandy Rodriguez), 7:05
Marlins (Kevin Slowey) vs Nationals (Gio Gonzalez), 7:05
Indians (Ubaldo Jimenez) vs Blue Jays (Brandon Morrow), 7:07

Phillies vs Braves - is Halladay done or just rope-a-doping us all?
Giants vs Dodgers - is Lincecum done or just rope-a-doping us all? (same question for Beckett?)
Other interesting arms to watch - Brandon McCarthy, recovering from injury. Tim Lincecum, recovering from sucking. Roy Halladay, recovering from an awful spring training. Couple intriguing young arms like Matt Harvey and Wily Peralta.
Egads, Phil Humber is your #3? Really?
And Kevin Correia is a #2.
A very nice back-and-forth.
GOOD DAY, SIR!
Currently Deduno is in the minors for some reason, and Diamond is injured. Swarzak and de Vries (again) are also injured. Their rotation is now
2012 Phillies fifth starter
2012 Pirates fourth starter
2012 White Sox sixth starter
Hendriks
?????
Fortunately the various other guys who washed out of their rotation over the last few years (Brian Duensing, Glen Perkins, Nick Blackburn) are still with the organization and ready for their 265th chance.
Diamond is injured, as you said. Deduno is basically only in Rochester because he had a slight groin issue shortly after/during (I've seen varied reports) WBC and they didn't want to risk having to get him through waivers again if they had started him in MIN but had to send him down.
I think it might have something to do with his 1.544 WHIP and 1.08 K/BB ratios last year. At least I hope it does.
And the baseball gods were kind to me as I had to do an autodraft and still ended up with Matt Harvey.
Also, a "here here" for #5.
LETS GO ROYALS AND SCORE YOUR FIRST RUN OF THE YEAR! BUNT, BUNT, BUNT YOUR WAY TO VICTORY!
Dear lord.
EDIT: However, the team that lands Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito as their #5/long reliever might be doing better than we suspect.
Moyer-esque!
On the All-Floral Team:
C Tyler Flowers
1B Pete Rose
SS Willie Bloomquist
SP Ted Lilly
RP Ron Flores
RP Randy Flores
RP Steve Stemle
And the baseball gods were kind to me as I had to do an autodraft and still ended up with Matt Harvey
I have Harvey on all three of my teams. I also have Marcum on 2 of my teams, that is less good.
Pop up
Strikeout
Ground out
Strikeout
Home Run
Walk
He's really diversifying his outcomes this year.
Trivia: at one point he was part of the all-Jesus battery: Jesus Flores catching Jesus Colome in 2007.
Unless the are riddled with injuries, I really don't see this team not competing for a wild card spot. They have enough pitching to cover up any rough stretches with the offense and they finally have some cheap, home-grown position players like Flowers and Viciedo that are worth watching. Also, 3rd base is no longer a vortex of suck.
The jersey-tucked-into-khakis look is probably not going to sweep the nation.
Maybe. I can see the Sox on the losing end of a lot of 1-0 & 2-1 games. But if Konerko continues to defy age and Dayan and Flowers continue to develop they could be a fun team to watch. I don't see the Tigers really running away with the division anyway.
And John Danks needs to get healthy or someone like Santiago or Castro needs to pitch surprisingly well because a rotation of Sale-Peavy-Floyd-Quintana-??? is shaky. I don't trust Dylan Axelrod much.
Yea, but...defense. Egads. Terrible today. Are they a bad defensive team?
If I were Robin Ventura, I'd set the lineup so that it was Dayan, Flowers and Adam.
Not normally, no. I'm only following the game on Gamecast, so I haven't seen today's errors, but... Ramirez is prone to mental errors. Wise shouldn't even be on the team if he's committing any sort of errors.
Wise had a long run but should have made the play, little popup that he got a good jump on but simply failed to follow into his glove, ball bounced right off the webbing.
I'm not worried about the rotation. I think Quintana/Axelrod/Santiago is a fine 4,5,6 and the top of the rotation is about as good as it gets. The offense however will have to produce if they want to challenge Detroit. I don't see a division title, but a 2nd wildcard? Sure.
A while back when Dice-K made the scene, it seemed that if he fell behind he would rather let the guy walk and try and get ahead of the next guy or get the next guy to swing weakly at a ball. Now we saw this was unsustainable by him. But are there any other pitchers renown for this? I guess, IOW what pitchers are known for very high strand rates?
I see what you did there.
Gentlemen, gentlemen... the proper answer is "me too!"
Slowey is an independent thinker who is incredibly bright. Dick and Bert are not particularly bright and despise anyone who challenges the company line. They consistently ripped on Slowey while he was on the Twins, and apparently are not content to just wish him well now that he's in the NL.
That minute or two stretch when they were discussing him (and the autographed baseball) a few innings ago were completely unprofessional and embarrassing.
Hicks - I know him... he's a prospect
Mauer - Isn't he in the Hall of Fame yet?
Willingham - Hasn't Minny traded him yet?
Morneau - I thought he was killed in a tragic offseason accident...
Doumit - So THAT'S where he ended up
Plouffe - Is a person or a slur?
Parmelee - I vaguely recall him as a failed prospect from the early ~90s
Dozier - the fullback!?!?!
Florimon - That's a really weird way to spell "Christian Guzman"
I do look forward to an increased familiarity with the lesser league...
No kidding. I haven't really listened to them before but that soured me on them a bit.
If I lived near the ballpark, I would have taken them up on their offer and picked up a Kevin Slowey baseball.
Hunter has been really well positioned on a couple of hard hit balls to right center.
To be fair I don't think even the average person attending Twins games knows who half of those guys are.
Early odds on who represents the 'Stros in the ASG?
The announcers just started bad mouthing Slowey, who I guess is starting for the Marlins tonight. They seemingly didn't like the way he left the club or something, but never got into specifics. And then one of them starts talking about how he still has a Slowey autographed ball, which apparently disgusts him and they spent like a minute+ talking about how to get rid of it. They invited anyone to come up to the booth to get the ball if they wanted it. It was weird.
Well sure, they've got at least three guys who you would expect to finish over 100 OPS+, maybe more. The Yanks have one, maybe two right now.
It has to be Altuve, right?
4-1 Altuve again
10-1 Matt Dominguez
15-1 Brett Wallace
15-1 Chris Carter
15-1 Carlos Pena
20-1 a catcher
30-1 Rick Ankiel
5000-1 a starting pitcher
note: I don't know how to set odds, don't offer to bet me
C'mon, Xavier Cedeno has a name! So do Erik Bedard and Jose Veras!
He's the reason I don't think it will be a reliever. Usually, with a team like this with no obvious position player or starter, the ASG pick will be a closer who has racked up a lot of saves, even if their ERA sucks. But by starting the season with Veras as the closer the Astros are guaranteed to have a different closer in a couple of months, preventing any of their guys from racking up the necessary saves to make the game.
A friend of mine tweeted to Dick Bremer offering to grab the baseball "so you'll never have to think of Kevin Slowey again"
Ha! Nice. I hope he gets it.
The Astros bats repel balls with extreme ease.
It'll be like a Cat with buttered toast on it, or something.
I strongly disagree with this. The Astros' rotation is the best part of their team by a fair margin. Norris and Bedard are competent and have clear upside, and Harrell probably had the best season in 2012 that nobody seems to know about. It's way more likely they pick a starter than that they pick a Matt Dominguez or Brett Wallace type.
It'll be like a Cat with buttered toast on it, or something.
The ball will hang in midair between the mound and the plate after a Twins' pitcher throws it to an Astros' batter. Umpires will huddle around the rulebook with puzzled expressions on their faces.
They've already tied the major league record for most consecutive games with 13+ Ks.
"This guy's dead!"
It has to be Altuve, right?
Justin Maxwell is on pace for 108 triples, so he has a shot.
(Seriously, Maxwell wouldn't come as a complete shock.)
I wonder if he'll be a reliever again next season. He must be getting whiplash with the frequent role changing.
What's the record for fewest wins by an All-Star SP?
