eta: Though if Keith Hernandez says it wasn't a bad decision then I guess I should retract that.

I thought his turn was too slow, actually.

In news of the unlikely, Adam Dunn just stole second base against Blake Beavan of Seattle.

Adam Dunn.

Adam Dunn had 19 steals in his first full season!

Betancourt in for Ramirez for the brewers

I think the worst part of a potential DL stint for Aramis for a Brewers fan would have to be the fact that Betancourt probably gets most of the PT in his absence.

Koi Uehara just pitched a big inning for the sox. Doubront gave up a lead-off double (tying run) and left the game. Uehara struck out the first two hitters and flied out the third hitter.

Uehara was a maniac coming back to the dugout. High-fiving the #### out of everybody.

Is he always like this? Was he specifically targeted to enhance the chemistry, as many of the Sox off-season signings were said to be?

That was a lame dive by Duda. Not even close.

Duda looked abysmal trying to get to that flyball! He should have had that one, but never looked close to getting it.

I can't believe the Red Sox got Uehara so cheaply. Yeah, he's 38 but he's been downright spectacular the last few years coming out of the pen.

They do, which is one of the reasons they're a good bet to beat projections. For some reason, ZiPS doesn't like the bullpen at all, even with several elite guys out there (even writing off Bard).
   222. Lassus Posted: April 05, 2013 at 09:29 PM (#4405894)

Oh, come now, B.J. got on base once tonight.

In unrelated news, I'm starting to hate Gerald Laird even more. First, for being Gerald Laird, and not, say, Dave Ross. And now, because any playing time he gets is going to come at Evan Gattis's expense.

   256. Brian White Posted: April 05, 2013 at 10:14 PM (#4405946)
How good is Evan Gattis? How much playing time will he get this year?

He hit like crazy in the minors. With the caveat that he was always way old for his level. But the caveat has a caveat in that he quit baseball for like four years after high school, and then came back, so in terms of baseball experience, he's like a 22-year old, not 26. As a catcher, the Braves coaches have expressed confidence that he won't be a *total* disaster out there defensively. He has also played a bit of LF.

So how much he plays depends on Brian McCann's return, if Gerald Laird hits, and whether or not Justin Upton or Jason Heyward need to spend any time on the DL. So probably not a whole lot.
   257. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 05, 2013 at 10:19 PM (#4405949)
Thanks Brian!

McCann looked pretty close to cooked at the end of last year. His shoulder could be a difference-maker for the Braves this year.

You've touched on something that hadn't occurred to me until you pointed it out. It seems I've recently developed affection for rotund third basemen who make better plays than I expect from men their size. I wonder what this says about me. I'm texting my therapist right now.

I think you're perfectly situated to list the all-fatty 3B team, featuring Pablo Sandoval, the aforementioned Alvarez, Miguel Cabrera for starters.

And Greinke put in his vote for "no DH" in the NL.

Going into tonight's game, the Astros had struck out 43 times in 97 plate appearances (44.3% of the time).
Of all the players that have had at least 500 plate appearances in a career, only these guys struck out at a higher rate than the Houston Astros are doing right now:
(before game 4)

Player SO PA SO%
-------------------------------
Dean Chance 420 759 55.3

Anyone looking to gattis for fantasy purposes should know that the braves have sort of stated that he won't start any of teheran's appearances.

The implication is that he will stick around once mccann comes back and be a bench guy, extra C/OF, but i feel like if he keeps shitcanning guys out on the bases, getting hits, and working well with the starters, this isn't as cut and dried as it seems.

Why reference Strasburg...?

They have never let Strasburg work into the 8th inning. He was cruising on Opening Day and Davey still yanked him early. Gotta baby that arm, even though the "reins are off" this season.

I guess my brand of humor is either too obscure or not funny.
