A’s-Mariners game postponed — tarp was left off infield

It just became official. Tonight’s A’s-Mariners game was called off because the field at the Coliseum is unplayable.

It’s an embarrassing situation all around, and the fans who showed up booed — and had every right to do so — when the PA man announced the cancelation at about 15 minutes after the 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch.

Apparently, the tarp was left off the field overnight, and the rain soaked the field. The grounds crew has worked on the dirt for hours, especially where the shortstop and second baseman play.

Someone needed to be around to say, "Behold! It's a tarp!"

Actually, Vince Coleman had shown up to bring vengeance upon his sworn nemesis, the tarps of Major League Baseball.

The lengths some teams will go to avoid facing incredibly powerful 1st Place teams like the Ms is scandalous.

Sounds like Oakland trying to avoid playing the hot Mariners for 1 less game and also sending a message to MLB that they need to get out of this place.

At least it wasn't Opening Day.

Selig will now commission a new committee to study tarp management in Oakland, expected duration of study is 5-7 years.

To be fair, they probably don't have much experience with rain.

Coliseum sewage problems are a national story, but the A’s hadn’t had a rainout at home since 1998 – until Tuesday, forcing Wednesday’s day-night double-header. A’s and Mariners players voted against a double-header this weekend, as is their right in the collective bargaining agreement.

The game between the A’s and Cleveland Indians on April 1 was postponed because of rain. It was the first rainout in Oakland since May 5, 1998.

The 19th rainout in Oakland history, including the postseason, covered the Coliseum with so much water so early that officials postponed the game about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.

The smartest organization in baseball.

The A's are simply trying to see if there is any of that TARP relief fund left.

Selig will now commission a new committee to study tarp management in Oakland, expected duration of study is 5-7 years.
And the committee will conclude that the A's cannot possibly compete without a new, publicly funded, $342 million tarp.

Sure enough, A's acknowledge they're just fleecing their remaining fans.

The As need to dump this venue and leave it to the NFL.

Or tear down Mt. Davis and kick the NFL out.
