To quote Gypsie Ann Evarts Stell: “It’s almost as if they were saying, You live your lives….and we’ll live ours”.
Grant Balfour might not make it look easy, but he’s still piling up the saves.
Still, the A’s closer has felt some heat from media and fans after allowing at least one run in four of his past six outings and putting up a 9.53 ERA in that span - but blowing only one save.
“I’m getting the job done,” Balfour said. “I blew one. Other than that, I’ve done my job.”
...The main issue Balfour had Friday, he said, was that he threw 35 pitches.
“You look afterwards and say, ‘How’d I throw that many pitches when I didn’t walk anyone and only one ball went out of the infield?’ ” Balfour said. “But a lot of pitches other teams pop up or hit into the ground, they fouled off.”
...Balfour is second in the league in save percentage, at 94.9 percent, and he’s disappointed that there are those who have lost faith in him as the A’s closer.
“They went from loving me to hating me overnight,” he said. “They can worry about their jobs, and I’ll worry about mine.”
