A’s designate Johnson for assignment

Oakland acquiring Jim Johnson from Baltimore and agreeing to pay him $10 million this season left a lot of people shaking their heads and now the move is officially a spectacular failure. And over, too.

I thought the Marlins were really interested in him. If Oakland was going to eat salary anyway, may as well get an ok prospect for him.

#1 beat me to it. He's a known quantity to the organization and presumably is comfortable with staff, Camden, etc.

For a pro-rated minimum salary, I bet they go for it.

It's the Marlins, they probably wanted Oakland to eat 140% of the salary. Overheads, you know, yachts cost money to run.

Johnson has given up a 2.036 OPS in the last seven days. That's an improvement from his 2.167 the week before. If he can keep up that rate of improvement, the league will be merely Babe Ruth against him by late September.

White Sox lost another reliever today. If Don Cooper weren't suffering from vertigo, he'd probably be on the phone to Johnson.

I like Johnson, although he's never really been the same since Raul Ibanez ruined him in the 2012 postseason.

If the score were 9-1 I would automatically assume that Jim Johnson was the reason it wasn't 2-1.

Ha yes, I didn't pay that much attention to the details of Wednesday's game. Apparently Johnson was brought in to protect a 9-2 lead and gave up 4 hits without recording an out.
