A’s designate Johnson for assignment

Oakland acquiring Jim Johnson from Baltimore and agreeing to pay him $10 million this season left a lot of people shaking their heads and now the move is officially a spectacular failure. And over, too.

Our long national nightmare is over

I wonder if the Orioles will pick him up.

Billy Beane never should have written that trade agreement.

I thought the Marlins were really interested in him. If Oakland was going to eat salary anyway, may as well get an ok prospect for him.

A former closer is available? Somebody let Ned Colleti know!

#1 beat me to it. He's a known quantity to the organization and presumably is comfortable with staff, Camden, etc.

For a pro-rated minimum salary, I bet they go for it.

I think the Orioles should try him as a starter.

It's the Marlins, they probably wanted Oakland to eat 140% of the salary. Overheads, you know, yachts cost money to run.

Johnson had a 12.21 ERA and .500(!) BABIP in home games this year.

He was beyond horrible. That appearance last night was the nails in the coffin.

One can only hope this is clearing the way for the addition of Jonathan Papelbon.

Johnson has given up a 2.036 OPS in the last seven days. That's an improvement from his 2.167 the week before. If he can keep up that rate of improvement, the league will be merely Babe Ruth against him by late September.

He gave Baltimore some nice seasons. Hope he can put it back together somehow.

White Sox lost another reliever today. If Don Cooper weren't suffering from vertigo, he'd probably be on the phone to Johnson.

I like Johnson, although he's never really been the same since Raul Ibanez ruined him in the 2012 postseason.

Just got back from today's game. I was wondering why Johnson was not pitching in a 9-1 blowout.

I'd probably be looking for a 12 or 13 run lead before I called his name.

If the score were 9-1 I would automatically assume that Jim Johnson was the reason it wasn't 2-1.

I think yesterday's game did a darn good job of answering that question.

Ha yes, I didn't pay that much attention to the details of Wednesday's game. Apparently Johnson was brought in to protect a 9-2 lead and gave up 4 hits without recording an out.
