A’s finalize 10 year lease extension for O.co

Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig issued the following statement today regarding the lease extension of the Oakland Athletics:

“I commend the Oakland Athletics and the JPA for their efforts in reaching an extension for a lease at O.co Coliseum. The agreement on this extension is a crucial first step towards keeping Major League Baseball in Oakland.
“I continue to believe that the Athletics need a new facility and am fully supportive of the club’s view that the best site in Oakland is the Coliseum site. Contrary to what some have suggested, the committee that has studied this issue did not determine that the Howard Terminal site was the best location for a new facility in Oakland.”

Am I the only one that read the headline and did a spit take, thinking the A's had given Coco Crisp a 10 year extension?

Woohoo. Trying to root for the San Jose A's would've felt weird and uncomfortable. I'm very glad that that discussion is postponed for a while. You've bought a few years, guys. Now get to work on building a park that's not way the hell out in the middle of nowhere.

Glad they are staying in Oakland.

What does it mean to "support" the club's view that the best site in Oakland is the Coliseum site?

Goodbye, Raiders.

Aren't you forgetting about that fine print that allows the Athletics to leave if they finish dead last in attendance???
   9. John Northey Posted: June 26, 2014 at 01:58 AM (#4735969)
Hard to be dead last when Tampa is around. Right now Tampa & Cleveland are both in the 16k a game range with 4 others behind Oakland as well.

Is Bleacher Report actually a news service now, or do they still just reblog other people's work?

Goodbye, Raiders.

The Raiders are still around? Huh. Haven't heard a peep out of them for at least 10 years.

God, I hope so. And they can take Mt. Davis with them.

The Warriors are leaving first so what they could probably do is knock down the arena and build a new stadium there

# 18 is exactly why I wish the A's could just up and leave Oakland for a better site in the Bay Area. The City of Oakland doesn't do #### but play politics over the ####### team. They truly couldn't care less about the A's. #### em.
   20. dr. scott Posted: June 27, 2014 at 07:27 PM (#4737718)
To be fair to Oakland, there is a lot of #### in line ahead of the A's that they are doing even worse on... Maybe we should be glad the A's are not getting their attention.
   21. GGIAS (aka Poster Nutbag) Posted: June 27, 2014 at 09:55 PM (#4737790)
Fair enough. No argument against that from me.

Their insistence on upping page views because of slideshows is exactly why I never go there....at least Cracked.com is nice enough to break it down into two or three pages...one page per information is bogus. Especially when that one page has only one sentence.

I don't really understand from the story what happened exactly. It mentions a "boycott" but usually people participating in a boycott will explain why they are participating in a boycott.

jeez - haven't heard from him in like forever. i think he lives somewheres on the east coast, edits gawker or bleacher report or something. i can't remember the last time i saw anything he wrote, except for his piece spitting on the female japanese knuckleballer.

feels like the neyerboard and Primer were like 2 lifetimes away, like i am an old lady reminiscing from the nursing home

Really, he's at foxsports.com now. He finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home…

Allow me to introduce you to... Deslide.

If you go to a site that has a slide show, and then open Deslide, it will pull all of the slides and accompanying text into a single page.

It's great.

Perhaps I'm overly cynical, but the failure of the lease opponents to indicate the basis for their opposition might suggest their reasons are less than noble. Maybe their cash-filled envelopes were misrouted? The lease didn't include a luxury box for the City Council (a Washington, DC favorite!)?
