A’s Jesús Luzardo forced to adapt as a kid. Now his stuff is ‘almost unfair’ -

The next, next big thing.

“Growing up, Jesús wasn’t the biggest kid on the team, he was one of the shorter kids, so he had to develop command and feel for the offspeed,” said Luzardo’s father, who also is named Jesús. “I think that was an advantage for him: He learned to pitch without the advantage of the fastball. And then he got the velocity when he grew. He needed a different approach — a lot of the big kids depended on the fastball and he didn’t have that luxury.”

First time looking at headline i thought i saw “Luzardo forced to adopt a kid”

That would an interesting story.

Luzardo is my favorite pitching prospect right now. Mize is the one that gets most of the attention, but Luzardo has both a better K/9 and a basically equal BB/9 rate. He's also younger and has played at higher levels.

Mackenzie Gore has higher k/9 and higher BB/9 rates. Luzardo's ratio between those two stats is a tick better.

Pearson has the same K/9 and a worse BB/9.

All those guys range between 0.5 and 0.7 HR/9. Pearson is the worst, Luzardo right in the middle. Brendan McKay is better than Luzardo on all three measures. But, eh, I'm still excited about Luzardo. In TFA one of his teammates calls him 'Zeus', which is probably just based on his last name, but I think it's a pretty good nickname all the same.

He must get his named misspelled all the time as Lazardo or Lizardo.

Lizardo was going to be the villain in the next series of Luke Cage.

It'd be even better if it was one of the kids we keep taking away from others.

Before Luzardo went down with the injury in spring training, Chapman said: "He's a stud. You can quote me on that."

Growing up, Jesús wasn’t the biggest kid on the team

He was popular at parties, tho, especially when he did his "fishes and loaves" trick.

I would have thought the free wine would have been a better party trick.
