Athletic Writer Throws Fit Over Rhode Island Not Giving Into Stadium Financing Scheme

A hot new sports media startup may not be the place you’d expect to find a braindead take lifted straight from a dead-tree columnist’s 1996 notebook, but then you remember that The Athletic, in its quest to destroy all print sports sections, did hire plenty of middle-aged white guys. One of those guys is Joe McDonald, and he’s got one hell of a column out this week.

There is no way "giving into" is correct there. Hence, I find Deadspin making fun of another publication a bit suspect.

I love the fact that they offered 38 million, a clear and direct reference to Schilling, as a counter, simply because they knew it wasn't going to succeed.

Yeah, offering them only 40%+ of the money they need to finance a private enterprise really sucks. Some capitalists can't make a buck if government doesn't provide the financing. Of course we've been doing that for over 200 years.
