Athletics To Acquire George Kottaras From Brewers

I’m so confused!!

The Brewers and Athletics have agreed on a trade to send catcher George Kottaras to Oakland, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.  It’s not yet known what the Brewers will receive in return.

Kottaras, 29, was designated for assignment by Milwaukee on Thursday.  The catcher has a .209/.409/.360 slash line in 116 plate appearances this year for the Brewers.  In parts of five big league seasons, Kottaras owns a .221/.326/.402 batting line.  The Brewers replenished their catching depth this afternoon when they inked Humberto Quintero to a minor league deal.

Via MLBTR, the White Sox acquire Liriano from the Twins in exchange for infielder Eduardo Escobar and southpaw Pedro Hernandez.

Suzuki and Norris seem basically fine, especially as Suzuki awakens from his slumber. This is not what A's fans are looking for. Get us someone for the left side of the infield.

I like #1... Kotteras seems decent, but this is pretty unexciting news.

That's quite a walk total for such a crummy hitter. Is IOB (Isolated on-base percentage) a thing?

There are rumors this will lead to a Suzuki deal to Anaheim. Mike Scioscia does love catchers that can't hit. If Suzuki does get dealt to Anaheim, his nickname should be "Trojan Horse."

I've seen it referred to as Isolated Discipline, IsoD.

Fautino de los Santos to the Brewers. Seems like a good deal for Milwaukee. He could be good.

Norris back to aaa?

Seems pointless if getting Norris to AAA for a month was the main objective. They could have just brought Donaldson.

I remember back when the Red Sox acquired him from the Padres, the consensus was "This guy is pretty much what you'd expect to get for a 48-year-old David Wells, and he's too slow to move off catcher, but his walk rate makes him interesting". That was accurate.

Kottaras looks like a league average catcher against RHP, which would be a nice improvement over the stellar .204./255/.263 line A's catchers have put up against righties this year.

DLS stil has the potential to be a good reliever, but for now he just doesn't have the control to be trusted in high leverage situations.

georgie isn't good enough defensively to be a regular and with his batting approach he needs to play pretty regularly so he can do more than take ball four. if he sits too much he just cannot keep his timing so he strikes out or hurries his bat when he does swing and makes poor contact. good guy.

All the handsome Brewers get traded.

The ugly ones leave as free agents.

And yet Ryan Cook is the closer.

In any case it's a good deal if Kottaras plays at least half the time.....and hits and walks like he has been.

He was traded for Jose Veras, not a FA.
