Atlanta/Southeast BBTF meet up

From the depths of the much maligned, dreaded, and oft times avoided OTP thread has sprung forth the idea that we have a quorum of ATL and ATL-adjacent Primates to justify a meet up. (We can’t field two softball teams yet.) We’re banging around locations in the city for drinks, dinner and shenanigans now. The date will on or around Feb 12.

I'm in for the 12th. Don't mind anything but would prefer something near 285. Any time after 5:30 or so.

Good to have everyone in one place. Easier that way.

Come on down, buddy. We'll be nice to you. You're not on my lists.

How many are we looking at if we're talking dinner?

I mentioned it in the OTP thread but I'll bring it up again here. I would vote for Krog Street Market. Ample amount of food choices plus they have Bar Mercado, Ticonderoga Club, and the beer taps if you're looking for something good to drink. Ponce City Market will probably be too crazy busy for a meetup.

Now if anybody wants to head over to SunTrust Park and the Battery to celebrate pitchers and catchers reporting I'm absolutely fine with that as well. El Felix and Antico are both fabulous choices for dinner and if you want to drink the Yard House is next door.

Other than that I mentioned the Painted Duck if you want to toss a ball at some pins while hanging out.

If anybody for some oddball reason wants to fly down to Atlanta to hang out with the cool kids let me know and I might be able to get you a cheaper hotel rate.

If you're really looking for "near 285" I would be willing to swing up to the Battery or so, if required. I mean, I'd prefer Westside, Downtown or O4W, but something on the Perimeter might be an easier destination for folks who don't live in the city proper.

My suggestions from the OTP thread.

My suggestions depend on what you want to do. Drink some great cocktails in a cool but crowded atmosphere? I'd suggest Golden Eagle. Sit around in a bar with some good fun and some pinball and such? I'd go with Smoke Ring. A straight bar with some good small plates I would suggest Poor Hendrix. If you're staying downtown I'd say Empire State South. If we're talking springtime and want to go outdoors and get some good cocktails I'd suggest 8 Arm. If you want to go to a food hall I'd suggest Krog Street where you got Bar Mercado, the Ticonderoga Club, along with the beer taps in the main food hall.

I'm trying to think of a place in O4W that wouldn't be very busy and crowded come 5:30 or wouldn't be crazy expensive and I can't really think of any. I'll do downtown and if most people for the meetup are coming from inside Atlanta I certainly won't object to it but with downtown you got the pain in the arse traffic plus expensive food and cocktails.

I will say it is insanely easy for me to get to Grant Park from work so I'm all for that as well. But the caveat of course is that Grant Park doesn't have much right now. You got Six Feet Under but near it you have Golden Eagle in Reynoldstown. I would suggest Gunshow if people want a rollicking good time with a who knows what else coming flair to it but it isn't open on Mondays.

Westside is fine for me though I will have to get through almost the entire city to get there, but yeah, westside has a bunch of good places to hang out at.

Let's assume 6-8 and add or cull the list as necessary. I think Krog Street is a good idea, but if going to the Battery makes more suburbans show up, then I'm fine with that.

Copying my response posted on OTP before I realized this thread had been created:

My only request would be a place with decent & affordable victuals, since of course I can't even drink ####### cokes, much less alcohol. *sigh*

for the most part any day will work during the work week with enough advance notice.

Ditto.

Sounds good. I live ITP so Battery or Krog Street are both ok with me.

Count me in. At least right now, I have nothing in particular on my calendar then.

Krog street has a decent wood fire pizza place, a decent Mexican place, I was not enamored with Gu's Dumplings but a lot of people say they are awesome, there's two BBQ joint and both were decent, the sushi joint is trying to be like the chipotle of sushi, a hot chicken sandwich place, a healthy food joint that I haven't tried, a baos joint I haven't tried yet, and a Mediterranean shawarma/kebab I haven't tried yet either. AS previously mentioned they also have Bar Mercado and Ticonderoga Club. Bar Mercado features a very good beverage program and a good food program as well while Ticonderoga Club is lacking in the food department but has a really cool looking place. Reminds me of something you would see in Gunga Din. A British Officer Club in Bombay or something like that. Even the beer tap place has expanded to craft cocktails as well.

Krog Street would be good with me (live in Decatur, work downtown). I'm a 40 y.o. normcore, so I don't go there that often, but have also enjoyed the burger at Fred's.

normcore

The fact that this term exists makes me want to hurt people. Or, more specifically, to have Sam hurt people for me; my energy level just isn't what it should be.

I’m available for reasonable rates.

Okay. Monday. Feb 12. Krog Street Market.
   17. McCoy Posted: January 10, 2018 at 09:20 AM (#5603887)
I’m good with that. What time?
   18. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: January 10, 2018 at 09:30 AM (#5603889)
I assume you guys will be coming from work, so a late happy hour/early dinner would seem reasonable? I mean, I'll find some energy and put on pants before noon, I'm sure, so whatever will likely work for me.

Noted. I'll ask for the day off.

I'm in Vinings and might be able to make it depending on work schedule.

Geez. Just checked a long-range weather forecast that predicts a temp of 18 & possible snow for the date. If that happens, won't roving bands of cannibals be marauding through the city amid burning buildings?

Edit: ... Even more than normal, I mean.
