Atlanta/Southeast BBTF meet up

From the depths of the much maligned, dreaded, and oft times avoided OTP thread has sprung forth the idea that we have a quorum of ATL and ATL-adjacent Primates to justify a meet up. (We can’t field two softball teams yet.) We’re banging around locations in the city for drinks, dinner and shenanigans now. The date will on or around Feb 12.

I'm in for the 12th. Don't mind anything but would prefer something near 285. Any time after 5:30 or so.
   2. Lassus Posted: January 09, 2018 at 08:57 AM (#5603208)
Good to have everyone in one place. Easier that way.
   3. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: January 09, 2018 at 09:27 AM (#5603226)
Come on down, buddy. We'll be nice to you. You're not on my lists.
   4. McCoy Posted: January 09, 2018 at 09:27 AM (#5603227)
How many are we looking at if we're talking dinner?

I mentioned it in the OTP thread but I'll bring it up again here. I would vote for Krog Street Market. Ample amount of food choices plus they have Bar Mercado, Ticonderoga Club, and the beer taps if you're looking for something good to drink. Ponce City Market will probably be too crazy busy for a meetup.

Now if anybody wants to head over to SunTrust Park and the Battery to celebrate pitchers and catchers reporting I'm absolutely fine with that as well. El Felix and Antico are both fabulous choices for dinner and if you want to drink the Yard House is next door.

Other than that I mentioned the Painted Duck if you want to toss a ball at some pins while hanging out.
   5. McCoy Posted: January 09, 2018 at 09:28 AM (#5603228)
If anybody for some oddball reason wants to fly down to Atlanta to hang out with the cool kids let me know and I might be able to get you a cheaper hotel rate.
   6. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: January 09, 2018 at 09:29 AM (#5603229)
If you're really looking for "near 285" I would be willing to swing up to the Battery or so, if required. I mean, I'd prefer Westside, Downtown or O4W, but something on the Perimeter might be an easier destination for folks who don't live in the city proper.
   7. McCoy Posted: January 09, 2018 at 09:51 AM (#5603247)
My suggestions from the OTP thread.

My suggestions depend on what you want to do. Drink some great cocktails in a cool but crowded atmosphere? I'd suggest Golden Eagle. Sit around in a bar with some good fun and some pinball and such? I'd go with Smoke Ring. A straight bar with some good small plates I would suggest Poor Hendrix. If you're staying downtown I'd say Empire State South. If we're talking springtime and want to go outdoors and get some good cocktails I'd suggest 8 Arm. If you want to go to a food hall I'd suggest Krog Street where you got Bar Mercado, the Ticonderoga Club, along with the beer taps in the main food hall.

I'm trying to think of a place in O4W that wouldn't be very busy and crowded come 5:30 or wouldn't be crazy expensive and I can't really think of any. I'll do downtown and if most people for the meetup are coming from inside Atlanta I certainly won't object to it but with downtown you got the pain in the arse traffic plus expensive food and cocktails.

I will say it is insanely easy for me to get to Grant Park from work so I'm all for that as well. But the caveat of course is that Grant Park doesn't have much right now. You got Six Feet Under but near it you have Golden Eagle in Reynoldstown. I would suggest Gunshow if people want a rollicking good time with a who knows what else coming flair to it but it isn't open on Mondays.

Westside is fine for me though I will have to get through almost the entire city to get there, but yeah, westside has a bunch of good places to hang out at.

Let's assume 6-8 and add or cull the list as necessary. I think Krog Street is a good idea, but if going to the Battery makes more suburbans show up, then I'm fine with that.

My only request would be a place with decent & affordable victuals, since of course I can't even drink ####### cokes, much less alcohol. *sigh*

for the most part any day will work during the work week with enough advance notice.

Ditto.

Sounds good. I live ITP so Battery or Krog Street are both ok with me.

Count me in. At least right now, I have nothing in particular on my calendar then.

Krog street has a decent wood fire pizza place, a decent Mexican place, I was not enamored with Gu's Dumplings but a lot of people say they are awesome, there's two BBQ joint and both were decent, the sushi joint is trying to be like the chipotle of sushi, a hot chicken sandwich place, a healthy food joint that I haven't tried, a baos joint I haven't tried yet, and a Mediterranean shawarma/kebab I haven't tried yet either. AS previously mentioned they also have Bar Mercado and Ticonderoga Club. Bar Mercado features a very good beverage program and a good food program as well while Ticonderoga Club is lacking in the food department but has a really cool looking place. Reminds me of something you would see in Gunga Din. A British Officer Club in Bombay or something like that. Even the beer tap place has expanded to craft cocktails as well.

Krog Street would be good with me (live in Decatur, work downtown). I'm a 40 y.o. normcore, so I don't go there that often, but have also enjoyed the burger at Fred's.

The fact that this term exists makes me want to hurt people. Or, more specifically, to have Sam hurt people for me; my energy level just isn't what it should be.

I’m available for reasonable rates.
   16. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: January 09, 2018 at 07:27 PM (#5603726)
Okay. Monday. Feb 12. Krog Street Market.
   17. McCoy Posted: January 10, 2018 at 09:20 AM (#5603887)
I’m good with that. What time?
   18. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: January 10, 2018 at 09:30 AM (#5603889)
I assume you guys will be coming from work, so a late happy hour/early dinner would seem reasonable? I mean, I'll find some energy and put on pants before noon, I'm sure, so whatever will likely work for me.

I'm in Vinings and might be able to make it depending on work schedule.

Geez. Just checked a long-range weather forecast that predicts a temp of 18 & possible snow for the date. If that happens, won't roving bands of cannibals be marauding through the city amid burning buildings?

Edit: ... Even more than normal, I mean.

Neat. Just checked mine, & the forecast has been revised (& pretty recently, too; I know I looked it up again around a week ago) to match what you cite.

I just blocked the afternoon.
   26. McCoy Posted: February 02, 2018 at 04:19 PM (#5618252)
I should have the day off. Not that I need it. Somehow I doubt this group is the type of heavy drinkers that one needs to block a whole day for.
   27. dlf Posted: February 02, 2018 at 04:34 PM (#5618266)
I'm going to definitely out-drink gef, but finish well behind Sam.

should we all wear our team's cap so we can find each other?

I don't think you guys are going to be the type of guys that blend in at krog street.

I don't think I could any more find my Razorbacks cap (last worn, I think, for Arkansas' conquest of Auburn on the football field back in 2006) on short notice than Diogenes could find an honest man.

Hilariously I just realized I probably should have scheduled myself to work tomorrow as it with be vastly easier to get to krog from work than from home.
   35. dlf Posted: February 11, 2018 at 12:57 PM (#5623194)
What time and which of the places in KSM? I have a call that will run until close to 5 and will be driving down from Roswell.
   36. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: February 11, 2018 at 01:14 PM (#5623199)
My last call is at 3. Should be over to KSM by 4ish. I’ll hit Gu’s dumplings first? Unless folks want to meet at Bercado.

Email me at samh at bell south dot net and I’ll shoot you my phone number.
   37. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: February 11, 2018 at 01:20 PM (#5623202)
Wait. I’ll settle at Hop City and wait for folks. Then find eats.

Email sent. Feel free to circulate to others who are going to be there.
   39. McCoy Posted: February 11, 2018 at 02:18 PM (#5623222)
4ish is fine but I thought we were looking at 6ish.

Yeah, hop city is probably the easiest meet up if we get there earlier. At happy hour there isn't going to be a ton of space at the bar.

Oddly enough the sushi place will probably have the most bar space at that point.
   40. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: February 11, 2018 at 02:48 PM (#5623233)
I’m simply going to ride across town before traffic. If folks slide in at 6for dinner I’m good.
   41. VCar Posted: February 11, 2018 at 04:48 PM (#5623281)
It will probably be at least 6 before I get there. I'll look for you guys at Hop City, unless someone posts a more likely place that the crowd will be around 6.

Note to self: Remember the stupid time change (shortly before the state line) & leave an hour earlier than common sense suggests.

I'll be there around 6, give or take with traffic coming down 400 and the connector. Same measurables as Mike Trout (6'2" 235#) but carried much more like Bartolo Colon, shaggy grey/black hair and short beard, off-white sweater.

Well, I was harmed. Had to wake up at 5 so I didn’t get a ton of sleep. But s great time by all and I was right that primates were going to be easy to spot at Krog. Glad to see I was still the youngest of something.

dlf is proposing another one of these in the next few weeks (specifics to be determined), preferably at either White Flight Field or one of the area minor league ballparks. I'm in, & obviously he is too.

Others?

With the death of the OTP thread, I'm not sure how much more I'll be around here. But would love to have another get together in Atlanta. Any takers?
   62. McCoy Posted: November 14, 2018 at 01:35 PM (#5787401)
Sure, I can do it. This weekend no and somewhere in the middle of December I'm going to DC and of course we've got the holidays but I"m generally able to stop by any day and at any time at night.

The Battery is easy for me of course. We could do Antico or slum it at the sports bar. I don't know if the gang is a Punch Bowl Social kind of gang but there is that as well. Get some bowling in while we drink.

I'm definitely open to another trip to Atlanta, with a bit of advance notice so I can get a day or two off (which I need to do anyway, as I'm facing use-it-or-lose-it with something like 4 1/2 days). For that matter, I've already got Dec. 3-7 down as vacation.

I'm not on facebook, so someone else needs to be the go-between.

Other than next week when I've got family in town for Thanksgiving, I'm wide open. My thought is we pick what ever works best for gef as getting here from Montgomery is the most challenging.
