I did notice the visible stuff and like it a lot.

One thing I moaned about for years was the lack of defensive leaderboards, which have been up for a while, if quietly. After actual baseball is over this year I intend to spend some time this offseason learning from them. There's an unprecedented amount of material there and lots of new insights to be gained. B-Ref, as always, gets better and better.

As always with the changes I'll hate it for about 48 hours then come to love it. I don't do well with change.

It keeps asking me if I want to run Flash though. That has never happened before (I'm on a PC, not a mac). Change in the way the ads are delivered?

Big problem: The All Star and Hall of Fame badges don't work. Period. They have to be changed.

Yeah, it's not the images, it's the names. The text isn't vertically centered next to the image. That's not the real issue with the new ones though. The issue is that they look terrible and are too similar to each other. The old ones were much better.

The changes seem to have killed the neutralized batting tool.

For me, that's an extremely retrograde step.

Look for it under "more stats" next to the batting banner. It is near the bottom.

For Barry Bonds click on the link and word search on "neutral" to get there; it is just above the leaderboard listing.

Don't like the badges? I was going for Pure CSS version for better speed and accessibility. They look much better in chrome and safari. Ie user ?

the PI is very very very badly screwed up

Pasta,

How so? I've been using it a bit the last few days and haven't seen it badly screwed up. What's gone wrong?

It's still there. It just doesn't work anymore.

The only real problem I've noticed with the PI is that the "___ Plate Appearances" button under the "Minimum Playing Time" field doesn't work anymore. (If you select that option, you'll get zero results, no matter what search you perform.)

I don't think it looks that bad in IE (I normally use Firefox). There is no shadowing in IE.

I think they might be a little large in both browsers. In FF, the badge takes two lines, with the name in column 2 on line 1, while the years in column 3 are on line 2, which is distracting.

Count me as one who doesn't like the new HoF and All Star badges, mostly because they look almost identical. Also, they're so big it's hard to tell to whom they apply.

Thank you for reporting this. It should be fixed.

Firefox. They are WAY, way way way too big. You can't tell who they line up with.
   15. Sean Forman Posted: October 29, 2010 at 07:59 PM (#3679556)
The back button issues people were seeing should now be fixed. The solution is too technical to fit in the margins of this document.

I don't know what the feature is called, but when I try to do a totaling of a portion of a player's career (e.g. Cliff Lee's 2008-2010 seasons) instead of seeing the whole answer, I get a small box with the information. I can scroll over to see the full data so it isn't like I'm not seeing what I need but it is a bit less user friendly.

I'm using IE8.

(as a side note, the site is still absolutely phenomenal. Being critical about such a great resource that I get for free makes me feel a little icky)

I don't know if its just me, but Play Index has been inoperable all day.
   18. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: October 29, 2010 at 08:48 PM (#3679572)
Agreed on the badges in Firefox being way too big.
On my phone (Android), I only see the player search text box on the main screen. (as in - i can see it there, i can't see it on other pages i've gone to. the enter button, yes, but not the box in which to enter the name)
   19. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 29, 2010 at 08:51 PM (#3679576)
I'm in Chrome, by the way. I do feel a little weird about criticizing the greatest, most user-friendly tool on the entire internets. It's like telling Jesus he seems cool and all but he could use a haircut.

The neutralize tool is now working again sorry about that.

Yes it is. Huzzah! Thank you, Sean.

Just tried and . .. .it ain't working for me either. Must be a bug in it. I'm looking at player pitching and every time I try a search I get the following message:

Request Failed

This request has failed. Perhaps retry with fewer years. Please report this error if it persists.

I just sent the site bug email, but as long as you're checking here, I'll note it here as well.
   23. Sean Forman Posted: October 29, 2010 at 09:20 PM (#3679597)
try it again, I screwed it up in another way and should be fixed now.
   24. Sean Forman Posted: October 29, 2010 at 09:21 PM (#3679598)
re: the badges, I'll get those tweaked on the search if I can find a few minutes tonight.
   25. Sean Forman Posted: October 30, 2010 at 03:26 AM (#3679749)
Fixed the search results. Yes, I have no life.

Yes, I have no life.

And we thank you for that.

Sean,
The NYT Postseason WAR article was terrific. Where can we find that data on the site?
   28. Sean Forman Posted: October 30, 2010 at 05:33 PM (#3679927)
Unfortunately, we don't have that readily available in summary data. I need to create a tool for that.
