BA: Arizona State Ends Ballpark Negotiations With Cubs

It looks like Arizona State won’t be sharing the Cubs’ new spring training facility after all.

After more than a year of negotiations with the Cubs and the city of Mesa, ASU announced Thursday that it is officially ending conversations and “moving forward with pursing other options for our baseball program,” according to a release.

“ASU negotiated the original agreement in good faith,” the school’s release said. “However, the changes the Cubs demanded shows that they do not value the partnership with ASU, thus making a deal impossible.”

“ASU negotiated the original agreement in good faith,”

Everybody always does, don't they? But the other party to the agreement is always, like, the worst people ever!

This means ASU will move, most likely, into Phoenix Muni, which is fine.

Just because the Cubs got a massive government hand out for their economic black hole of a stadium doesn't mean they should give local government entities the slightest of favors to increase the stadiums microscopic usage rate. Leave that cement mausoleum empty most of the year for all I care, teach Mesa a lesson in "economic development".

What KT said! And per Gold Star, Phoenix Muni was and (at last view) still is a great ballpark - with some fond memories!

And it "looks like heaven is easier to get into than Arizona State".

I had a great time at ASU... from what little I can remember.

Largest university in the country (not counting online virtual universities), over 70,000. How exclusive can it be?

You know ASU's national reputation for quality of its, er, student body(ies)?

It's true.
