Baggarly: Huff credits Burrell for his blossoming as Huff Daddy

Pat the uhh, laughable bat.

You knew Huff’s next story about Burrell would be good. He prefaced it by saying, “Awww, I’m sure Pat won’t care if I tell this.”

“After two weeks at Miami, I wanted to go home,” Huff said. “So my mom flies out, trying to convince me to stay. I was living with two seniors and they ragged me, too. I just didn’t understand all this baseball ragging nonsense. She’s in my room one night and I’m sitting on my bed and she’s telling me to give it another two weeks.

“Anyway, there’s a knock on the door, and before I can even get off the bed, Pat comes barging in with a six-pack in his hand, dripping wet, buck naked.

“So I jumped up and shut the door. Coming from Texas, these things didn’t happen. I said, ‘See what I’m dealing with here, mom?’

“She just started laughing and said, ‘Actually, Aubrey, that’s pretty darn funny.’

“I thought, ‘My God, if my mom can laugh at this, why can’t I?’ “

"Back in spring training, (Huff) couldn't stop staring at teammate Nate Schierholtz's washboard abs."

Where would the six pack of beer have been that Pat the Bat would have had to retrieve it naked and have gotten wet? You know what, just forget I asked. Heading to the soccer thread...

"Yeah, that's pretty much how it happened," he said. "I was looking for the shampoo. There wasn't any in the shower. Obviously, I didn't know his mom was in there."

Long pause.

"I don't know how the six-pack got in my hands."

By "that," does she specifically mean Burrell's, um, equipment? Maybe he's like the guy in my high school who was said--on what ought to have been good authority--to have "Can't touch this" tattooed there.

Years ago -- and I can't pull up the direct link at work to verify if the full interview is online -- but Burrell gave an interview to Penthouse which I excerpted on my blog:
Q: Is it true that your off-season home of Clearwater, Florida has strip joints on every corner?

A: It does seem like there's one on every corner. I'm not a big fan of them. Something that surprised me at this one strip joint was when you walk in, they give you a towel. I asked, "What do I need this for?" The guy at the door said, "Trust me, you will." I said, "Let me get this straight: the girl is going to dance for however long the song is -- and I'm going to need this towel?" Let me tell you, I needed the towel. I don't know what happened. Nothing of mine touched anything of hers. But it just doesn't make sense.
Pat and his Bat, indeed.
