1. Moneyball can't buy you love (Joey B.) Posted: August 28, 2009 at 09:39 PM (#3308073)Goofy, you say? Ridiculous? Ludicrous? Outlandish?
Yes, yes, yes, and ummm, yes.
Is he accusing Biggio and Bagwell of using PEDs?
Lying about their respective ages.
Going once, going twice...
Gonzo? That can't be right.
Common knowledge, no?
Frank Robinson, IIRC
Frank's last season as a player-manager was 1976, Kessinger's was 1979

what a crock of shtt
youse guys want to know how jim rice suddenly got "feared" after 15 years of being a bad tempered GIDP greedy ballplayer with 2 high RBI years? well, people change the stories.
bagwell and biggio ran two, probably three managers off all by their lonesome, didn't back their teammates in public and insisted that all ballplayers act colorless and unenthusiastic on the field - only then it was called "professionalism"
bagwell was a great fielder, an outstanding baserunner and, unlike tejada, wasn't going to insist on swinging at pitches not in the strike zone. he struck out more, but he made a lot fewer outs because he didn't think walk was a dirty word. and until he was (unfortunately) put in the OF, biggio was an awesome fielder. his insisting at swinging at outside sliders in the dirt really was only prominent in the last 4 years of his career. neither one of em is anything like tejada and most certainly, neither one of em has even a shred of his happy, enthusiastic personality
having him "manage" would be an interesting gimmick - he couldn't be worse than cooper and at least all the other ballplayers don't hate him. he would never take himself out of the lineup although he's fading very badly and SHOULD be rested. but veteran goodness ROLLZ in coop's mind and he doesn't want to rest either tejada or kaz matsui (who wasn't supposed to be playing more than 5 games a week if he wasn't on the DL)
- as for miggy being a GDIP machine, i promise you i talk about his GIDPs, and all the other astros GIDPs a LOT. we have a good shot at breaking the As 2007 record, i think, as long as we don't sit miggy and cooper keeps telling pence to pull everything so he keeps hitting grounders to short
