Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts admitted last night that he used steroids “once,” in 2003, but said he hasn’t used them or any other performance-enhancing drugs since.
...“In 2003, when I took one shot of steroids, I immediately realized that this was not what I stood for or anything that I wanted to continue doing. I never used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance-enhancing drugs prior to or since that single incident. I can honestly say before God, myself, my family and all of my fans that steroids or any performance-enhancing drugs have never had any effect on what I have worked so hard to accomplish in the game of baseball. I am very sorry and I deeply regret ever making that terrible decision. My only hope and prayer is that the Orioles, my family, friends and fans that have supported me so faithfully will forgive me.”
...and then trade me the hell out of here as quick as possible! Losing sucks!

Yeah, I mentioned Magic, but he also had Kareem. Russell goes too far back for me.
But I am most definitely not trying to say it can't happen, it would just be pretty damn unique. The way things are now, the Celtics do look like the favorites. I don't think it'll stay that way, but I also am still forming my opinion of them (which wasn't as high as a lot of people's prior to the season).
None of their players have a ton of playoff experience, that's all I'm getting at. No matter how good they are now together, I just wonder. That's all.
The natural order does not involve the Knicks sucking THIS bad. They have become a parody of suckiness. If you were to write a story about a sucky team with a sucky coach and a sucky GM and a sucky ownership, which exactly paralleled the Knicks, it would be rejected as too over the top, even as a farce.
Years from now, people are going to look back and wonder why Duncan was not appreciated more. Yes, he won back-to-back MVPs, but in this age of flash and trash, he simply does not get the adulation he merits. Such is the price for doing things the right way.
Okay, in an ideal world we'd have the Celtics, the Knicks and the Sixers duking it out, with the Celtics winning every series in seven and then toying with the Western champ in the finals. And Red Holzman would come back to life and teach the Knicks how to throw a pass or two. But for now I'll settle for what we have.

But Isiah is close. He destroys everything he touches.
I can't wait for his defamation lawsuit against the cat who made up all those false stories about injecting him in the gluteus maximus!
My base frame of reference for the Knicks is from about 1980 to the Ewing lottery draft. They were good when Bernard King was healthy (and briefly playing like a forerunner to Michael Jordan), and then sucked massively until Ewing was drafted and a team assembled around him.
The combination of Jimmy Dolan and Isiah Thomas is mesmerizing though
They SHOULD be a lock to win the East though, but if the '99 Knicks, '01 Sixers, '02 and '03 Nets, and '07 Cavs proved anything, it's that even getting to the finals if you came from a horrendous conference doesn't necessarily make you a contender.
But I am happy for Garnett. Unlike Iverson, he really is a true legend who simply had the misfortune of playing on overmatched teams.
Dolan has been sucking to beat the band for quite some time now.

My frame of reference is from around 1967 on. So I have seen some ups and downs. But this level of suckiness on any and every conceivable level? I mean, yes, they were horrible in the late 80's. But they weren't so dislikable at the same time -- Bernard King was never hatable - and they did not have that vortex of vomitude which is Isiah-Dolan.
