Ok, surely there is a suitor for Gordon Beckham??? A non-tender would be the perfect end to his Sox career however.

At least they didn't get Dan Uggla!

It's Cespedes.

A Cespedes for the rest of this?

By the way his double play partner has now been stuck in a godawful slump for a fifth of the season. Castro's line over the last 32 games is .223/.301/.264. Maybe it's time to see if Starlin can become a pitcher.

Yeah, what happened to Starlin's power spike? The slump itself isn't all that shocking, given last year...

Check the tags. :-)

Well, it's still a bit of a spike on the season as a whole -- ISO of 150 up from 125-130.

At the plate against RHP, he really doesn't...

When people associate Barney's name with a dinosaur, you gotta nip it in the bud.

Now I won't be able to complain anymore when Gary Pressey (organist) plays the Andy Griffith Show theme as Barney's walk up music instead of the far superior Barney Miller theme.

At what point did Darwin Barney's career turn to rubble?

All you guys ever do is gumble about Barney's name.

I need to Google Barney.

Why do the Dodgers want him, is there an issue with Gordon or is this for depth?
   20. akrasian Posted: July 29, 2014 at 11:22 AM (#4759619)
My understanding is it's purely a depth move. Because of injuries, slumps, soon to be minor league suspensions, etc the Dodgers are short of decent fielding backup MIs. This is basically a free move - a small amount of money at most.

50% depth, 50% they want to make the Giants to keep running Dan Uggla out there.

Also, no post on the Danny Valencia-for-Liam Hendriks/Erik Kratz trade? I thought it was a really fascinating demonstration of how terrible the Royals have been all year long at getting value out of the last 2-3 spots on their 25-man roster.
   23. JJ1986 Posted: July 29, 2014 at 11:47 AM (#4759642)
A team has definitely done something wrong when Erik Kratz is a significant improvement to their big league ballclub.

Catching innings by the 2014 Royals

789.2 Salvador Perez
143.0 Brett Hayes
1.0 Francisco Pena

That seems like a big workload for Perez. Looking around at the divisional rivals:

789.2 Salvador Perez
751.0 Yan Gomes
731.0 Tyler Flowers
674.1 Kurt Suzuki
668.0 Alex Avila

I guess it's not that extreme a workload. But Brett Hayes totally blows and Perez needs more days off. Definite improvement.

I hope the Rockies are entertaining offers for Dinger.

If only there was a catcher freely available on the waiver wire at the moment who has hit .218/.342/.429 over the past four seasons, they could have just picked him up WITHOUT giving up the only corner infielder on their team who can hit lefties (Danny Valencia career vs LHPs: .333/.369/.510. He and Juan Francisco are going to MASH for the Blue Jays.)

And, of course, Liam Hendriks has also been released by four separate teams this year; he was also available for nothing all year.

I'd like to see Barney get some run at short, not just second, for somebody. Not that he can hit...

That seems like a big workload for Perez.

He started 27 of the first 28 games ... and 37 of 38 games from June 1 to July 12, subbing in on the off day. Brilliant managing.
