Barry Zito sprains ankle during rehab start

San Francisco Giants left-hander Barry Zito sprained his right ankle during a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Fresno and will be sidelined indefinitely.

On the bright side, his name is in the credits of The Franchise for providing some music, so that’s nice.

I saw that too. It's a good thing he has alternate income sources.

Speaking of The Franchise, my GF asks me the other day "why would he willingly live in LA when he plays in SF?" (and she used to live in LA).

My thoughts were as follows:

1) He's from LA? (which was wrong - San Diego. But he did go to USC)
2) More time with Patrick Duffy!
3) More Hollywood starlets and models to date!
$126m) Would you like to be Barry Zito and run into Giants fans every day? Those interactions would be slightly different than, say, Matt Cain gets.

I'm pretty sure Zito is an avid surfer, and the ocean is far warmer off the coast of the LA area than the SF Bay area. And the area in which Zito lives -- the UCLA/Sunset Boulevard realm -- is real real nice.

Oh, and my compliments to whoever it was that dug a hole in the Fresno infield turf for Zito to step in. Well done! Bravo!

Your bad karma apparently caused Sandoval to get hurt tonight, though.

Last time I went to AT&T, they had a between-innings feature on the big screen that had Barry Zito playing acoustic guitar. A fan had to guess what song he was playing. It was introduced as "one of his favorite songs." It was "Jack and Diane."

The Giants sent him to AAA to work on covering home on all hits to the OF, and it paid off.
