BASEBALL!

A little humor to lighten the load.  Thanks to Nick Gieschen.

26 articles in one day. Is this a Primer record?

Well, if anyone's looking for a 27th, ESPN is claiming that the Devil Rays have been a little late with some deferred payments. But they were to Gerald Williams and Steve Trachsel. And really, shouldn't those guys be paying the Devil Rays?

It's about time Trachsel got a taste of his own medicine....by having something delivered to him s....l.......o..........w.

I'm confused. How on Earth did two players the caliber of Steve Trachsel and Gerald Williams get contracts big enough to require deferred payments. I always thought that those were traditionally reserved for stars (or at least decent players).

However, I'm more interested as to whether or not the player's union will actually file a grievance to get the back interest. While I realise that the Trachsel and Williams do have a right to that money, I think the last thing that the players need to do is launch a lawsuit over what amounts to a couple of weeks of interest, especially if they want to avoid accusations of insane greed from the mainstream press.

I find the legitimate Ted Williams stories tasteless and offensive -- thus an appropriate subject for jokes.

The fact that political cartoonists, who nowadays are carefully not to really shock their readers, can make light of Ice Ted and his boy Henry John Henry indicates that most people don't have problems with the treatment of the story.
