Baseball: Giants down Fighters in Game 6 to win Japan Series

The Yomiuri Giants beat the Nippon Ham Fighters 2-0 in Game 6 Saturday to claim their first Japan Series title in seven years.

Evil reigns throughout the world. And in the Japanese BBTF, Gamingboy-San screams: “Eff your Ancestors!”

Ham won the fight.

Ham won the fight.

I never understood whether they fought for or against hams.

Nippon Ham is the sponsor, so I'm pretty sure they fight for hams. Though they probably get paid in yen too.

Do their announcers call them the 'Fightin' Fighters"?

Isn't Nippon Ham the owner of the team?

Now all we need is for Manchester United to win the Premiership and UEFA Cup for the Evil Empire Trifecta!

Real Madrid.

For those scoring at home, this is the 21st title for the Giants. Since 1950, when the Japan Series started. Makes the Yankees look like, I don't know, the Red Sox?

rfloh - OK, but can we leave Man U winning the Premiership - they even have some sort of working relationship with the MFYs.

Yeah, the Yankees do. For several years a few MU games were on YES (not anymore) and such. Now I think they just have a joint marketing deal of some sort.
The Yankees also have alliances with the Yomiuri Giants (duh) and the Dallas Cowboys (they formed a stadium food vending company together, of which they both own a substantial chunk of)

I'd laugh my freakin' ass off if Man U won the UEFA Cup.

I wouldn't mind it. They can win the UEFA Cup all they want. Just keep them out of the later rounds of the Champions League. :-D

Well, I can guarantee that Man U will not win the UEFA cup this season (or the Europa League, if you're feeling specially pedantic).

The Cardinals might be a better analogy, since they are second to the Yankees in number of WS won (10).

Man Utd can't win the Europa League, but Real Madrid still could.

Barcelona, Juventus, Inter, Milan, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, among others, can also still "win" the Europa League, in case anyone's interested.

In fact, Juve or Bayern will have to try.
