Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk charged with DUI

Carlton Fisk, one of the greatest catchers in Major League Baseball history, was charged with driving under the influence after driving into a cornfield in New Lenox, Illinois, police said Tuesday.

Robert Pawlisz of the New Lenox Police Department told CNN that Fisk, who caught in more than 2,200 games for the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox, was treated and released from a hospital.

Fisk, 64, was also charged with the illegal transportation of alcohol and a lane use violation for crossing over an oncoming lane of traffic. He posted bond Monday night.

Hope he gets himself together and straighens this out.  It looks like the only casualties were some cornstalks.

Isn't this going on two years old? Someone just seems to have reposted it.

This story is from 20 months ago. Am I missing something?

Also, it doesn't look like Fisk has aged too gracefully given his appearance in that mugshot.

Okay, glad to hear that. At first, I thought, "Wow, again?!"

Curt Gowdy would have said, "At least when it comes to catchers he wasn't flying airplanes."

This is the last thing baseball needs the day before the start of the Tigers-Giants World Series. Anyway, I look for a Tiger sweep starting with this Verlander-Zito mismatch in Game One.

Yeah, I like Fisk, and not just as a great catcher, and I was worried there for a second, this would have made it a second DWI in less than two years, suggesting some deeper problem. Then the "age 64" clicked.

Me too. What is it with Fisk and cornfields? Is he trying to get to that game with Shoeless Joe?

In fairness that 2012 season drove lots of Red Sox fans to drink. Maybe 2013 will turn out OK but I doubt it.

He was probably nervous about the upcoming election between the former governor of his first professional home and a former senator from his second one.

I don't know why a DUI for a former ballplayer is news.

Because he drove into a cornfield.

The quickest way to get over a hangover is to drink some more and drive back into the cornfield.

My favorite thing about this isn't the age of the article, but that "Publius" tagged it only with "Red Sox" and not also "White Sox".

I dunno. I'm concerned about his ability to execute when it really matters.

Christopher Eccleston is a fine actor. I look forward to watching him for a long time on the revived Doctor Who.

Can't figure out why they cast a pop princess as his co-star, though. I bet she'll be uniformly hated by the fanbase.
