Baseball Image of the Day: Casey Blake Beardless

RIP Casey Blake’s beard. Hopefully he’ll let it grow back over the season.

You could have told me this was Jim Thome and I would have believed it. I'm still not totally convinced it's not...

Sort of looks like Jim Thome there.

edit: didn't see your comment. yeah it looks sort of exactly like thome.

Damn. Too late with my Jim Thome comment. Has anyone ever seen Thome and Blake on the same team at the same time? Oh. Nevermind.

Looking at Thome's stats, I noticed he led the league in strikeouts and walks in '99. That can't happen all that often, can it? I see Ruth did it a bunch of times but even the modern age with guys swinging-and-missing more often, it seems unlikely.

Dunn probably has flirted with that every season, no?

They were on the Dodgers 09 team together for about a month after Thome was traded to the Dodgers.

Dunn has come close a couple of times, although for a lot of his early career, no one was taking the walks title from Bonds so it was basically a moot point.

Wow - the resemblance is amazing.

Cust did it in 2008, and he probably would have in 2007 if he hadn't spent April in AAA.

Nolan Ryan did it 6 times.

i've got it. you take the top of jim thome's face and attach it to jay leno's chin and you get casey blake.

Speaking of chins, I was noticing recently that Brad Penny's is a real stunner.

It might be because I remember Casey Blake from his early Twins days when he was clean shaven, but I have to look really hard at that picture to see the Thome resemblance.

Edit: Wow, I looked it up, and I'm surprised by how little he played with the Twins from 2000-02. Only appeared in 29 games.

How will this affect his Hall of Fame chances?
