Our long national nightmare is over. Sort of.

Unfortunately David Huff is exactly the same pitcher as Sowers, part of Shapiro's mid-decade draft fetish for soft-tossing college lefties.

I bet Sowers is back in the rotation by mid-season.

Heck, Garko will probably be the first baseman by then too. Just shoot me.

mike burns released.

I saw him pitch yesterday; mechanics are similar on both sides. MLB made a new rule because of him. Before each hitter steps to the plate he has to inform umpires if he will be throwing lefty or righty.

It really isn't a new rule.

I was looking for a dugout as well. Here's my contribution:

In this afternoon's game, Denard Span fouled a ball off that clobbered a fan in a Span jersey. It turns out it was his mom, and she had to be taken away by medical staff. He was totally freaked out and went with them into the tunnel, but after a short time both returned; she was able to watch the rest of the game while he went back to center field.

That's a weird story, Cris. I thought I've read that ballplayers try, as much as possible, to seat family members in the sections behind the netting for just that reason.

I just want this posted somewhere, for use in future arguments. Jim Callis thinks Jesus Montero will catch in the majors, at least to start:

WhoDat D'Arbanville (Royal Street, Quarter):
I wonder if you can possibly identify ANYWHERE that the damn Yankees can play Jesus Montero when he's ready....?

Jim Callis:
Catcher. I think he breaks into the big leagues sharing catcher and DH with Jorge Posada.

Why didn't they just make Sowers a LOOGY? He has the platoon splits for it.

What was stopping Theo from calling up some other GM and saying something like "We'll trade you J. Papelbon and pick up his salary . . . interested?"

White Sox sign P Scott Elarton

Wow. Is there another Scott Elarton, other than the one that hasn't pitched since June of '08? He was terrible in Kansas City. Painful to watch.
