Baseball Intellect? Is that some sort of parody for Baseball Think Factory?

The Dbacks haven't had so many Captain material guys in the system since Curt Schilling was traded

My 2 cents. The Dbacks upper minors are really barren on impact talent. Whitesell/D'Antona are ready for the majors, and could conceivably contribute at 1b as a platoon if Chad Tracy fails to re-discover his power. Aside from that, there are no hitters worth talking about, for quite some time. Eventually, Parra will get a shot at the majors, but with Young, Upton and Jackson in the OF for the foreseeable future, Parra would really have to light it up offensively to have a shot at a regular job. The other couple of bats who might contribute sooner than later are Rusty Ryal (what a name), if he can make a case for 2b, and potentially John Hester as a backup catcher if the Dbacks really seriously decide to experiment with Miguel Montero at 3b next year. The pitching situation is dramatically better, but unfortunately, besides Parker and maybe Valdez and Augenstein, none of the pitchers in the system profile as anything more than solid relievers (potentially plus relievers for some) or back of the rotation innings eaters. But at least the Dbacks have so many of these pitchers, they can keep throwing them against the wall and see which ones of them stick.

I think 27 is past "prospect" age, but that's just me.

I didn't call them [D'Antona/Whitesell] prospects, and am not sure why the article did. I suppose they are "prospects" in the sense that they haven't accumulated 130 major league at bats... But they both have nothing left to prove in the minors, and the Dbacks might as well see if they can use them somehow on the roster. As I said, Whitesell provides depth at 1b, and that ain't terrible
